Following the unveiling of its brand-new Beyond collection last month, ExperiencePlus! Bicycle Tours, a leader in bicycle travel for 50+ years, is offering a deeper look at the Beyond: Kilimanjaro to Ngorongoro Crater by E-bike journey, one of the most distinctive itineraries in the new collection and the company’s first African adventure.
The 13-day voyage takes travelers by e-bike across northern Tanzania, beginning in the foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro and continuing into the plains and woodlands of the Great Rift Valley. Riders traverse rural, mostly unpaved roads linking villages and savannah landscapes, offering a gradual transition from highland coffee country to expansive volcanic terrain.
“Our Beyond journey in Tanzania–our first trip in Africa–is designed to connect travelers to the land in a way that is active, immersive, and deeply grounded in place,” says Maria Elena Price, co-owner of ExperiencePlus! Bicycle Tours. “The itinerary offers an amazing combination of activities and experiences not seen in most cycling tours–traveling through Maasai lands and rural villages before swapping two wheels for 4×4 game drives in Tarangire National Park and the spectacular Ngorongoro Crater.”
Here are just a few of the many highlights of this new tour which features departures in February and October 2027:
- Cycle along the border of the Ndarakwai Conservancy, passing through Ngara Nairobi and Tinga Tinga villages, tracing the foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro
- Ride into the dry, open grasslands of the Maasai lands with a chance to see iconic wildlife such as giraffe and zebra
- Pedal through open savannah across the Ngasurai Plain, a crucial migratory path of elephants moving to and from the Amboseli National Park in Kenya
- Visit Tarangire National Park, home to the country’s largest concentration of elephants and more than 500 species of birds, where you’ll take a break from the saddle to head out on game drives
- Ride up the Great Rift Valley escarpment on the biggest climbing day of the trip
- Go on a second game drive, this time in the Ngorongoro Crater, the world’s largest intact volcanic caldera and home to an extraordinary concentration of wildlife, including some of the most accessible and dramatic big game wildlife viewing in Africa.

Uncommon routes. Unforgettable places.
A defining feature of the itinerary is, of course, the use of e-bikes – enabling riders to comfortably explore varied terrain while maintaining an active, close-to-the-land experience – but the accommodations are as integral a part of the Beyond experience, particularly in Tanzania. From eco-lodges and tented accommodations to luxury hotels and quaint cottages, each place has been selected not simply for comfort but as expressions of the destination’s character and culture.
Where you’ll stay:
- Simba Farm Lodge – a working farm and lodge situated on 5,000 acres of rolling hills in West Kilimanjaro
- Osiligi-Lai Masai Lodge – an eco-lodge set between Mount Kilimanjaro and Mount Meru that blends luxury with authentic Maasai culture
- Forest Hill Hotel – a luxury hotel in Arusha that features a pool, perfect for cooling off after a day’s ride
- Roika Tented Lodge – located just three miles from Tarangire National Park, and ideally located for exploring the Ngorongoro Crater, it features 24 luxury en-suite tents and a pool
