A leading Arts Residency program in Western Australia, offering a unique opportunity for artists to develop work that engages thoughtfully with the land. The Farm Margaret River is located on Wardandi Noongar land, an ancient and ever-evolving natural environment surrounded by sacred Caves, Karri forests, and rugged coastline, The Farm exists within a region rich in ecological and cultural significance.
The Artist in Residence program at The Farm Margaret River provides a unique opportunity for visual artists to undertake focused, site-responsive work. Located on a rural property in the south west of Western Australia, known as Wadandi country. The residency will be awarded to an artist who demonstrates a strong creative practice, whose work will both enhance our engagement and awareness of the area and benefit their own professional career.
The program supports the artist to develop ambitious work in direct response to environmental, ecological, agricultural and/or the cultural context.
The Artist in Residence program includes:
- An 8-10 week residency for an artist to work in a site-responsive context
- An Artist fee of $15000 will support living and project-related costs during the residency
- Accommodation and studio facilities provided on site at The Farm Margaret River
- Coverage of travel costs to and from Margaret River
- Professional documentation of the residency and work developed on site
- Research and practical support, mentoring, introductions to local networks and arts organisations
- Opportunity to present the project to a panel for additional funding and resources
- A community engagement event where the work is shared with the community

Now in its ninth year, The Farm’s Residency program continues to cultivate a dynamic exchange between contemporary art and Country, supporting artists who seek to push conceptual and material boundaries in response to a unique Western Australian regional setting.
The Farm has hosted a diverse range of artists from across Australia, Europe, and New Zealand, including Linda Tegg, Jen Berean, Callum Mortom, Cassie Sullivan, Danae Stratou, Chris Booth, Cora Jongsma, Nathalie Hartog-Gautier, Harrison Riekie, Perdita Phillips, Holly O’Meehan and Jenni Vacca. This year, we are excited to welcome two alternate residencies to The Farm, Norkio Tomita (Japan) and Jen Valender (Australia).
The Artist in Residence program welcomes applications from Australian and international artists. Proposals should demonstrate originality, thoughtful site responsivity, and a commitment to creating meaningful discourse about land and our connection to it.
DATES
Applications open March 2, and close 5:00pm (AWST) Monday June 1, 2026.
The eight-to ten-week residency is to be undertaken between February and November 2027.
Timing of the residency is to be determined between the Funded Residency recipient and The Farm.
