Friday, December 27, is expected to be the airline’s busiest day, with over 50,000 customers scheduled to take flight. Domestic travel hotspots include Queenstown, Nelson, Dunedin, and Napier, each boasting impressive traveller numbers:

  • Queenstown: Over 250,000 travellers are expected in December and January.
  • Nelson: Welcoming 155,000 visitors during the summer months.
  • Dunedin & Napier: Each is poised to host over 120,000 travellers.

On the international front, Australia remains a top destination, with more than 450,000 passengers booked for trips to Melbourne, Sydney, and Brisbane. Additionally, Air New Zealand will offer flights to Bali during the holiday season for the first time, catering to over 12,000 eager travellers.

Tinseltown also beckons, with over 50,000 passengers heading to Los Angeles, while Tokyo has seen a remarkable 20% increase in bookings compared to the previous year, attracting nearly 50,000 travellers.

To ensure smooth travel during the bustling holiday season, Air New Zealand has shared a series of essential travel tips:

  1. Check Your Baggage Allowance: Review your cabin ticket and checked baggage restrictions.
  2. Plan Ahead for Special Needs: Allow extra time for travellers with pets, oversized luggage, or special assistance requirements.
  3. Know the Rules: Consult the Civil Aviation Authority’s (CAA) website to confirm permissible items in your baggage.
  4. Travel Insurance: Ensure your policy covers potential disruptions or emergencies.
  5. Sign Up for Alerts: Opt in for Air New Zealand’s travel notifications to stay informed of any updates.
  6. Be Patient: With heightened demand, security screenings and other processes may take longer. Show courtesy and patience to staff and fellow travellers.
