As the official international airline partner of the Sydney Swans, Qatar Airways welcomed some of the football club’s leadership team and several key players to Doha last week to showcase Qatar’s high-performance sporting facilities and strengthen the significant multi-year partnership with the club.
Sydney Swans Chief Executive Officer, Tom Harley, along with key players Hayden McLean, Justin McInerney and Robbie Fox, were among the group of 12 on this trip.
The team toured Doha’s dedicated sports city, Aspire Zone, which included a visit to Aspetar, a world-leading specialised orthopaedic and sports medicine hospital designed to optimise international athletes’ physique and medical needs. The Sydney Swans also visited Aspire Academy, globally known for developing top sporting talents, where they engaged in rigorous pre-season testing.
The Swans enjoyed leisure time at some of Doha’s main attractions, including the National Museum of Qatar, Katara Cultural Village and Souq Waqif, as well as an adrenaline-filled desert safari drive to Khor Al Adaid – the inland sea of Qatar.
One of the more relaxing highlights for the Swans was visiting the renowned Doha Beach Club, a premier destination for coastal leisure and entertainment, and an ideal spot for the team to unwind and recharge during the action-packed visit.
Since 2016, Qatar Airways has proudly partnered with the Sydney Swans, renewing the partnership in 2023 for a further multi-year term. As part of the agreement, Qatar Airways receives prominent branding at Sydney Swans home games, while supporters enjoy special Qatar Airways offers and giveaways throughout the season.
Mr Luke Drake, Senior Vice President of Sponsorship, Events & Exhibitions, Qatar Airways, said: “It is important for us to continually unlock opportunities with our partners, and this tour is testament to that commitment. We were delighted to host the Sydney Swans and showcase some of the world’s leading high-performance and sports medical centres right here in Doha, along with the outstanding leisure activities Qatar has to offer. Australia is our number one market for stopover sales, and we were thrilled that we could show the club many of the reasons why.
“Like all Sydney Swans fans, we followed their journey to this year’s AFL Grand Final closely and we’ll be cheering them on all the way for the upcoming season.”
Mr Tom Harley, Sydney Swans CEO, said: “We’re extremely grateful for the continuous support from Qatar Airways and this trip to Doha has been eye-opening, as the facilities available are world class and greatly beneficial to our players. Bringing some of the Clubs’ key staff to Doha in the off-season has been a great way to strengthen relationships and collaborate across the club before we start the 2025 season.”
