After just one week, Season 10 of the NT’s famous Million Dollar Fish competition has blown the record books out of the water with a staggering nine $10,000 barra already caught.
The stunning haul equals the entire Season 9 catch of $10,000 fish.
The nine fish were caught across the Top End from Daly River to East Alligator to Corroboree Billabong and there are still 91 barramundi with $10,000 tags waiting to be caught, as well as 10 fish carrying a tag worth a million dollars.
Antonios Mougros-10
Northern Territory Major Events Company delivers the event and acting CEO Trevor Cox said Million Dollar Fish Season 10 was off to a truly cracking start and was one for the history books already.
“Territory fishing is unparalleled and this bumper week of catches proves there’s no better place to catch yourself a bucket-list barra than in the pristine waters of the NT – just make sure you are registered for the competition,” he said.
Winners included former Season 8 $10,000 winner Yo Thu Yar, who must be one of the luckiest fishermen in the Territory.
Joining Mr Ya on the record-breaking winner’s list is Antonio Mougros who will share his winning with his best mate who was with him. He’s also vowed to update his barra tattoo now to include a red tag!
Another winner, Noah Faull said: “Just get out there and have a crack, you can’t catch fish if you haven’t a got a line in the water. You gotta be in it to win it.”
Lydia Hebb hooked her red-tagged fish late at night at Corroboree Billabong. She hopes to spend some of her winnings on fishing and boating gear, support herself through her final university placement and put some into savings for a house deposit.
The competition also has an official charity partner, Cancer Council NT, will receive $9,000 for the first week’s haul.
Season 10 of the Million Dollar Fish competition runs from 1 October 2024 to 31 March 2025. To claim any prize money from a tagged fish, people must be registered for Season 10. This also automatically enters people into a monthly giveaway draw.
