We are pleased to let you know that Channel Nine will once again be airing Viking’s four-part Explore TV series on the 15-day Trade Routes of the Middle Ages voyage from Bergen to Barcelona and vice versa. The reruns will give agents and their clients interested in tracing the ancient commerce route the opportunity to watch these episodes on Saturday afternoons at 12:30 AEDT from this Saturday (21 September), through to 12 October 2024 on Channel Nine.

The episodes, hosted by author, presenter and experienced globetrotter Trevor Cochrane, are a valuable opportunity for agents and their clients to get a glimpse of what life is like onboard Viking ocean ships, as well as the diversity of experiences they can expect to enjoy on this itinerary. Viewers will also discover the rich history, landscapes and diverse cities and towns along this ancient trade route from Scandinavia and Northern Europe and sailing into the Mediterranean.

  • Saturday, 21 September 2024: Part 1

Beginning in Norway, Trevor takes in the beauty of Bergen with an expert local guide and joins the executive chef onboard the Viking Venus for an interactive culinary experience. Trevor then sails to The Netherlands to visit the Delft pottery factory before learning how to make Pralines in Bruges, Belgium.

  • Saturday, 28 September 2024: Part 2

A visit to Monet’s house and garden in Giverny is a feast for the visual senses before a stop in Britain’s historic maritime ports brings new understanding to the art of drinking tea at Tregothnan Estate, Britain’s pioneering tea plantation and botanical gardens. In Portugal, Trevor learns the rich traditions of quality and perfection involved in producing the finest Port.

  • Saturday, 5 October 2024: Part 3

As the Explore TV team continues along the Iberian Peninsula, Trevor uncovers the exquisite hillside village of Mijas in the Andalusian province of Spain before exploring the ancient Roman city of Cartagena by Segway and a Roman amphitheatre that lay undiscovered for over 2,000 years.

  • Saturday, 12 October 2024: Part 4

Trevor spends his final days in the vibrant city of Barcelona, exploring Gaudi’s masterpieces and learning about local Catalonia culture. A special visit to Catalonia’s most cherished place of pilgrimage – Santa Maria de Montserrat Abbey brings a moving concert from “Escolania de Montserrat” the monastery’s boarding school boys choir.

Trevor explores the destinations and experiences of this remarkable itinerary stating, “From a personal point of view the highlight of this trip which isn’t an easy thing to decide because every port was remarkable, had to be the remarkable city of Barcelona in Catalonia … and what a finale, the food culture, architecture and history, it has everything you could ask for with the colour of Spain.”

2025 & 2026 Sailing Dates

Sailing dates for this journey along timeless trade routes in 2025 are limited, with just four sailings available in 2025. Limited availability remains for 14 April and 19 May 2025, with more stateroom choices still available on the 9 September and 5 October 2025 sailings. Bookings are also open for the two sailings scheduled in 2026 on 16 and 20 May 2026.
