Organized by Danhui (Guangzhou) Sports Culture Co., Ltd., co-hosted by Melco Resorts & Entertainment, and supported by the Macao SAR Government Sports Bureau and Yulin (Shenzhen) Sports Industry Co., Ltd., the “Melco Style Presents: 2024 Macau Lin Dan Cup Badminton Open” successfully concluded yesterday (September 15) after a two-day tournament comprising 82 exciting matches.
After fierce competition, Malaysian player Mr. Cheam June Wei, currently ranked 61st in the world, won the championship trophy with a score of 2-1. Former national team member Mr. Zhou Zeqi received the silver medal, while Mr. Lu Jiayu from Central South University claimed the bronze with a score of 2-0.
During the tournament, badminton Olympic gold medalist and Two Grand Slam winner, Mr. Lin Dan, made a surprise appearance alongside world champion and 2024 Paris Olympic Games women’s singles badminton silver medalist, Ms. He Bingjiao, presenting an exciting mixed exhibition match that captivated the audience.
The first-ever Lin Dan Cup in Macau, hosted over the course of two days, attracted nearly 5,000 attendees. A badminton supporter and ticketholder from Beijing described the experience as a five-star “Best Event of the Year,” being well worth the round-trip travel from Beijing.
Ms. Xie Xingfang, Badminton world champion and Executive Director of Danhui (Guangzhou) Sports Culture Co., Ltd., said, “The Lin Dan Cup aims to provide a platform for badminton enthusiasts to showcase their skills and engage in fair competition. With the upcoming National Games to be co-hosted by Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macau in the Greater Bay Area in 2025 and the double anniversary celebrations of the of the founding of the 75th anniversary of the PRC and 25th anniversary of Macau’s handover, the event’s debut in Macau holds extraordinary significance.” Ms. Xie encouraged athletes to perform at their best while also enjoying the unique charm of Macau’s culinary culture.

Ms. He Bingjiao remarked that the Macau Lin Dan Cup meets international competition standards in both its facilities and organization, and that her interaction with Mr. Lin Dan, a role model for many young people, has made one of her dreams come true. Ms. He hopes that the Lin Dan Cup will inspire more young persons and badminton players to continue to pursue their dreams.
