Langham Hospitality Group (LHG) is marking the ninth anniversary of Cordis Hotels and Resorts with the launch of an international display of heart-shaped sculptures entitled “The Heart of it All”. The sculptures mirror the upscale hotel offering’s distinct ethos, timeless tagline and flourishing footprint.

Latin for “of the heart”, Cordis was founded on the premise of delivering heartfelt hospitality services through warm and inviting properties that are the heartbeats of their communities. The proposition manifests itself in several ways, including the markedly genuine disposition of Cordis staff, the highlighting of local art and culture, and a pronounced focus on health and wellness offerings. These come to life through everything from neighbourhood tours to cuisine offerings, spa treatments, sleep tips, and community engagements with individuals and institutions of note.

Inspired by the brand’s iconic slogan, “The Heart of Hospitality”, the sculptures will be housed at Cordis properties globally and decorated to reflect the features of their surrounding neighbourhoods. Chief among them will be a piece by budding Chinese artist Mr. Hou Zichao, which was unveiled last night for a six-day pop-up exhibition taking place in collaboration with Harper’s Bazaar at the Fosun Foundation building in Shanghai. Informed by his memories of staying at a Cordis hotel, Hou Zichao’s mixed-media creation evokes the concepts of abundance, comfort and shelter, echoing the brand’s unmistakable ethos together with his unique visual language. The sculpture will be complemented by a concurrent mini exhibition in the same venue and eventually moved to Cordis, Hong Kong, the brand’s first hotel.

“These sizable sculptures don’t only embody the local and artistic elements of Cordis, but symbolise the increasing number of hotels that carry the brand,” Langham Hospitality Group CEO Bob van den Oord said. “It’s a number we expect to keep growing for the foreseeable future.”

LHG currently has eight Cordis hotels in operation and seven in its development pipeline. The brand is the company’s fastest-growing in terms of hotel numbers, particularly in mainland China where it has launched three new Cordis hotels in the last year alone.

The brand has also been a growth engine in terms of its guest offerings, partnerships and sustainability initiatives, with key milestones including the introduction of its resort concept through the opening of Cordis, Dongqian Lake, Ningbo in 2019; the development of bee hives and a honey cultivation programme at Cordis, Auckland that same year; tie-ups with renowned Chinese singer Huang Yali and Donghua University’s Shanghai International College of Fashion and Innovation in 2020; and the launch of an oyster shell recycling programme at its Hong Kong property in 2021.
