This innovative approach, developed in collaboration with the Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB), ensures passengers’ safety and showcases the airline’s home city’s vibrant culture and iconic landmarks.

A Unique Blend of Safety and Culture

The new safety video, set to roll out across all Cathay Pacific flights from August 1, 2024, represents a significant departure from traditional inflight safety presentations. Lavinia Lau, Cathay Pacific’s Chief Customer and Commercial Officer, emphasized the airline’s commitment to safety and innovation: “At Cathay Pacific, safety has always been at the heart of everything we do. This new video embodies our commitment to keeping our customers informed and prepared while fostering our Move Beyond spirit. We wanted to create something truly memorable that resonates with our global audience and showcases the true essence of our home city on the move.”

Immersive Storytelling Through Hong Kong’s Landmarks

Filmed across various iconic locations in Hong Kong, the video seamlessly integrates crucial safety demonstrations with the city’s unique charms. Each scene is a visual feast, from the bustling dai pai dongs for the “no smoking” announcement to the exhilarating dragon boat race for the life jacket demonstration. Other notable locations featured include Shek O Beach, Causeway Bay, Xiqu Centre at the West Kowloon Cultural District, the Peak Tram, Tin Hau Temple, and Clearwater Bay Country Park.

This creative presentation is designed to captivate and educate passengers, making the safety briefing an engaging experience. Lavinia Lau added, “We are deeply appreciative of the support from HKTB, which has allowed us to weave together inflight safety information and the vibrant offerings of Hong Kong in a gripping video.”

A Collaborative Effort

The partnership between Cathay Pacific and the Hong Kong Tourism Board has been instrumental in bringing this project to life. HKTB Executive Director Dane Cheng expressed his excitement about the collaboration: “HKTB and Cathay Pacific have been long-time partners in promoting Hong Kong’s tourism excellence to visitors worldwide. We are excited to join hands to showcase Hong Kong’s vibrant, diverse, and unique east-meets-west experiences through this video, which reaches millions of travellers from all around the world every year.”

A Grand Unveiling

The video was officially launched at a preview event held at The Sky Lounge, The Upper House, on July 26. Distinguished guests, including HKTB Executive Director Dane Cheng and Commissioner for Tourism Vivian Sum, attended the event. The launch event underscored the importance of this project in promoting Hong Kong as a premier travel destination.
