New research has revealed just how broken the travel rewards and loyalty system is. 1 in 3 Australian travellers say they receive little value from airline frequent flyer loyalty programs, a quarter of Australians are confused – and 2 in 10 don’t understand how the system works.
And while over 3 in 10 say they enjoy the perks and side benefits of travelling and rewards and loyalty programs, and nearly a quarter of Australians (23%) say they’ve collected a lot of points, they admit, they don’t know how to use them.
However, while Australian travellers may not feel the value and admit to being in the dark with how to use rewards – they are not shy when it comes to signing up. Almost 85% belong to a retail rewards program, followed by 77% to airline frequent flyers and 25% to hotel rewards.
With 9 in 10 Australians (90%) accumulating nearly 200,000 points and more than half (58%) stating they wish there was a platform they could use to help them understand how to get more from their rewards programs, there’s a clear need to simplify the process of earning and redeeming rewards.
Enter Pointrs, a new travel loyalty website that has launched today to do just that. Helping Australian travellers earn more points and miles, spend less and travel better, it’s a simple one-stop destination that is purely about making the most of travel experiences using the triple combination of points, miles and cash.
Founder of Pointrs, Michael Dixon, said he was fed up with a broken system that goes against the whole purpose of points. “Quite frankly, Australians have had a raw deal for too long, when they should be getting great deals for being a loyal member of a rewards program.”
The unique Pointrs model means travellers are instantly shown the most cost-effective way to use their points and miles on every flight. With access to a dashboard that simplifies finding and utilising loyalty program and credit card promotions, while offering tips on maximising points and miles, members can save up to 75% and earn up to 3.5x more. No more time-consuming research and no more outdated information, because Pointrs is updated daily.
Michael says, “We provide support including tips on the best credit cards to use for earning points, how to transfer points from one loyalty program to another, and, how to leverage promotions and discounts when transferring, and buying points to earn more, upgrade seats or a hotel room,” he said.
It’s problem that’s well overdue to be solved.
The outcry from frustrated Australians trying to book and redeem points is real. Research shows that almost half (42%) can never find available flights using points while nearly four in 10 (37%) state that expiring points or miles is a frustration and barrier they experience when trying to use loyalty points or miles.
But in good news, travellers haven’t lost faith in the system yet. 7 in 10 Aussies wish they could combine all of their membership points and miles and earn more points and nearly 7 in 10 (66%) agree that they would like to understand better how these programs work to maximise their gains.
That’s why, to celebrate its launch, Pointrs is currently offering a free 30-day trial to new subscribers. Aussies looking to better understand loyalty and rewards programs and get more for their points can sign up by visiting https://pointrs.com/en-au/sign-up/.
