Thredbo Resort is celebrating a successful Winter 2024 Opening Weekend.

Kicking off on Saturday 8 June, guests enjoyed non-stop celebrations all weekend with the launch of the Thredbo Alpine Coaster, the first days of skiing and snowboarding, a massive lineup of live music, entertainment, free kids’ activities and more.

The Southern Hemisphere’s first Alpine Coaster officially opened on Saturday morning and became a hugely popular attraction all weekend.

Excited guests queued up early in the morning on Saturday to score their first rides including 13-year-old William Thompson who waited 3 hours to be first in line.

“The Alpine Coaster was really fun! The corners turn really fast and it was just so good. I’ve already ridden it twice and I’m definitely going to do it again,” said William.

Open 365 days a year, the Thredbo Alpine Coaster is an all-weather, action-packed way to experience the mountain. At 1.5 kilometres in length, guests can control their speed of up to 40km per hour as they travel through a tunnel, bridges and circles that traverse the stunning alpine environment.

On Saturday night, Thredbo hosted the first of its famous après events for winter 2024 presented by Balter. Kicking off with a bang, pop duo Client Liaison took to the stage for a high-energy DJ set while a huge number of guests danced the night away under the fireworks.

On Sunday, Thredbo hosted the iconic Thredbo Long Lunch presented by Pommery. Guests gathered in the village to bask in the sunshine and enjoy flowing champagne before moving inside for a gourmet three-course lunch curated by Thredbo’s Executive Chef.

For families, there was a massive lineup of free activities on offer all weekend including arts and crafts, face painting, s’mores making, giant games, fireworks and more.

Wombats Snow Runner and Freddie’s Snow Runner were operating in the Friday Flat area this weekend, allowing beginner skiers and snowboarders to learn the basics and get their first turns in of the season.

Experts are forecasting a snowfall this week plus freezing temperatures ideal for snowmaking, enabling the resort to open more terrain for skiers and snowboarders in the coming weeks.
