Cathay Pacific - logoCathay Pacific, the esteemed Hong Kong-based international airline, is set to redefine air travel with its upcoming fleet of Boeing 777-300ER aircraft, scheduled for full deployment by early 2027. This move marks a significant milestone in the airline’s commitment to providing an unparalleled premium economy experience.

In an exclusive interview, Vivian Lo, Cathay Pacific’s General Manager of Customer Experience and Design, emphasized that the airline’s premium economy class is “more than a seat, but rather an experience.” This philosophy drives the airline’s human-centric approach to redesigning the premium economy cabin, ensuring that every aspect of the journey is tailored to enhance passenger comfort and satisfaction.

One of the standout features of the new premium economy class is the innovative seat design. While the seat size remains unchanged, passengers will benefit from improved ergonomics, including enhanced seat padding and a leg rest designed for optimal comfort during long-haul flights. The newly designed wing-shaped headrest provides a greater sense of privacy, while the LED reading lamp, now positioned on the seat rather than overhead, adjusts to the passenger’s seating position, whether sitting upright or reclining. Additionally, the deployment and stowage of tables in the premium economy have been automated, adding a touch of modern convenience to the flying experience.

Cathay Pacific has also taken this opportunity to revolutionize its in-flight entertainment system. Premium economy passengers will now enjoy 15.6-inch 4K TV screens, complemented by a new graphical user interface that enhances the user experience. Bluetooth pairing allows passengers to use headphones, further personalizing their in-flight entertainment.

The airline has not stopped at comfort and entertainment; it has also transformed the dining experience into a premium economy. Cathay Pacific offers a diverse and delectable menu by partnering with renowned Hong Kong restaurant groups. Collaborations include Italian comfort food from Pirata, traditional Hong Kong flavours from Duddell’s, and vegetarian options from Veda and Plant Sifu. These partnerships ensure that the dining options cater to various tastes and dietary preferences, including Jain and plant-based meals.

In addition to the revamped menu, Cathay Pacific has enhanced its wine selection for premium economy passengers. By working with leading Chinese winemakers, the airline offers selections such as the Domaine de Long Dai 2020 from Domaines Barons de Rothschild Lafite, elevating the in-flight dining experience to new heights.

The Boeing 777-300ER aircraft will feature two dedicated washrooms for premium economy passengers to enhance passenger comfort further. This thoughtful addition underscores Cathay Pacific’s commitment to providing a superior travel experience. As a testament to their confidence in the new design, the airline will add 16 premium economy seats to the Boeing 777-300ER models compared to other aircraft in their fleet, with plans to retrofit current A350 models.

Cathay Pacific’s comprehensive upgrade of its premium economy class on the Boeing 777-300ER fleet sets a new standard in the airline industry. The airline ensures that passengers enjoy a truly exceptional journey by focusing on comfort, entertainment, and dining.
