Thredbo will be the ultimate winter playground for families in 2024, launching the Southern Hemisphere’s first Alpine Coaster plus offering Australia’s best skiing and snowboarding for all ages and abilities, Australia’s only alpine gondola, one of the country’s best snowsports schools, a dedicated beginner area and the country’s biggest winter line-up of family-friendly events and entertainment.
What’s On For Families This Winter?
Thredbo Alpine Coaster | New For Winter 2024!
An exciting new offering for families, Thredbo is launching the Southern Hemisphere’s first-ever Alpine Coaster this winter. Open from June 8, the Thredbo Alpine Coaster will diversify Thredbo’s year-round recreational offering as an all-weather, action-packed way to experience the mountain. At 1.5km in length, passengers can control their speed of up to 40km/h as they travel along a mix of uphill and downhill tracks featuring a tunnel, bridges and circles that traverse the alpine environment.
To ride the Alpine Coaster on their own, children must be 8 years of age or older and over 135 cm tall. For kids aged 3 to 8, they can double up with a responsible person over 15 years.
Live Family Entertainment | New For Winter 2024!
Entertainment isn’t only for the young at heart in Thredbo! For the first time this winter, Thredbo is hosting a free Kids Live Alpine Concert ft. The Beanies on July 11 where kids can dance their hearts out while the parents enjoy drinks by the fire.
Skiing and Snowboarding
Thredbo is the ultimate skiing and snowboarding destination for all ages and abilities. Beginners will love Friday Flat, a fun and safe environment designed for skill progression. Intermediate and advanced skiers and snowboarders will have fun exploring the wide variety of terrain including Australia’s longest ski runs.
Ski And Snowboard Programs
With Thredboland for the little ones (3 – 6-year-olds), Adventure Camps for mini-shredders aged 5 – 12 and Freeriders for kids under 14, Thredbo offers a skiing and snowboarding program to suit every child. Led by an outstanding team of instructors, these programs are the best possible opportunity for children to build their skills and confidence while having fun. When they’re not ripping up the trails, kids can enjoy a special menu of children’s meals plus a schedule of fun activities with their ski buddies.
Saturday Night Flare Run & Fireworks Spectacular
Gather your friends and family to watch Thredbo’s iconic Flare Run and Fireworks Spectacular. An iconic Thredbo experience for over 30 years, watch our expert skiers and snowboarders wind their way down Supertrail with flares before the sky comes to life with fireworks that dance across the mountain. Held every Saturday night during winter (weather dependent), the Flare Run and Fireworks Spectacular is a magical way to finish a great day in Thredbo.
Thredbo Kids Snow Festivals
During the July and September school holidays, Thredbo hosts its Kids Snow Festivals where families can enjoy a specially curated lineup of kid-friendly activities and entertainment. Featuring kids-only movie nights, kids concerts, Lindt Chocolate s’mores, family fun nights, kids flare runs and fireworks plus lots more activities, the fun is non-stop.
On-Snow Events
The action is non-stop on the mountain for little shredders with many action-packed events that kids can get involved with!
The hugely popular Project Shred event is returning on July 13 to offer kids the chance to spend the day in the terrain park learning tips and tricks from some of Australia’s best skiers and snowboarders.

Merritts Mountain Haus Feasts
Ride under the stars in Australia’s Only Alpine Gondola to Merritts Mountain House to enjoy a Bavarian-inspired feast! The ride down is an unforgettable one with views of the Thredbo Village lights below. Bookings are essential.
Merritts Gondola
Home to Australia’s only alpine gondola, Thredbo makes it fast and easy to get on the mountain or up to Merritts Mountain House. The Merritts Gondola is a high-speed, eight-person Gondola that takes skiers, snowboarders and scenic passengers from the Village to the base of the Cruiser Area in approximately 6 minutes.
European-Style Village
Located within walking distance from the base of the mountain, Thredbo’s European-style village offers a great range of bars, restaurants, cafes and shops. In the evening, the village comes to life with live music and entertainment for visitors to enjoy with family and friends.
Thredbo Leisure Centre
Located just a 5-minute walk from Thredbo Village Square, the Thredbo Leisure Centre offers a wide range of activities for everyone to enjoy.
