Summer is drawing closer, and May brings with it not only beautiful warm weather, but also a lively city-wide festival in the Greek capital, Athens. This is Athens City Festival is an annual occasion to usher in the summer in the most special way. I’m reaching out to share some exciting details about this unmissable month-long festival, which will hopefully be of interest.
This year, the 3rd This is Athens City Festival edition, taking place between May 1st – June 2nd, will offer over 250 events across every neighbourhood. The festival will begin with the annual picnic in the park at Plato’s Academy on May 1st and will then offer an array of street parties, kids workshops, concerts and museum nights throughout the month. The festival, which offers something for everyone, regardless of age, was designed to encourage Athenians and visitors to explore Athens beyond the Acropolis, get to know public spaces and cultural events, allowing people to immerse themselves in a plethora of exhibitions and savour delicious street food while discovering the local cultural scene.
Visitors to the city can participate in guided tours through Athens’ most famous museums such as the Kotsanas Museum of Ancient Greek Technology on the 12th of May, or the Wine Selfie (June 2nd), an event presenting the opportunity to sample iconic labels from domestic and global wine producers. For genuine music lovers there’s the Piano City Athens on May 17th, featuring acclaimed artists and rising stars playing piano in the parks, squares, streets and museums. Additionally, the electronic music scene isn’t left out, with the participation of acclaimed Dj’s like &ME playing on May 26th. The list of experiences is endless, and we hope travellers to the city won’t miss out!
