PATA - logoIn the heart of Southeast Asia, Thailand is poised once again to become the epicentre of global tourism leadership with the return of the prestigious PATA Destination Marketing Forum. Scheduled for November 12-14, 2024, the event will be hosted in the serene town of Cha-Am, Phetchaburi Province, under the collaborative auspices of the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) and several critical Thai tourism bodies.

The forum, last held in Thailand in 2018, marks a significant return to a country renowned for its hospitality and rich cultural tapestry. Cha-Am, less than 200 kilometres from Bangkok and a stone’s throw from the famous resort town of Hua Hin, offers an ideal backdrop for discussions on the future of tourism in Asia-Pacific. “We are thrilled to bring the PATA Destination Marketing Forum back to Thailand, where we have always been greeted with warmth and enthusiasm,” stated PATA CEO Noor Ahmad Hamid. “This year’s forum not only aims to foster learning and networking but also celebrates the vibrant growth of travel and tourism across the region.”

Phetchaburi, a province celebrated for its historical significance and culinary excellence, is expected to provide the delegates with a culturally enriching experience. Governor Nuttachai Numpoonsuksun highlighted the region’s unique offerings: “From the UNESCO-listed Kaeng Krachan National Park to our three royal palaces and the UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy designation, Phetchaburi is a tapestry of natural beauty and cultural heritage.”

The forum’s agenda is meticulously designed to inspire and educate. With a two-day program that blends experiential tours with high-level discussions, attendees will explore sustainable tourism practices that can be replicated worldwide. TCEB President Mr Chiruit Isarangkun Na Ayuthaya remarked, “Hosting PDMF aligns with our vision of nurturing Phetchaburi as a thriving MICE destination while preserving its cultural and environmental assets.”

Environmental sustainability is a cornerstone of the forum. PATA’s commitment to a net-zero carbon footprint for the event underscores the industry’s responsibility towards ecological conservation. A nominal fee will be charged for carbon offsetting, emphasizing the practical steps being taken towards sustainable event management.

The forum is expected to draw industry leaders, policymakers, and stakeholders from across the globe, fostering a collaborative environment for exchanging ideas and strategies. Tourism Authority of Thailand Governor Thapanee Kiatphaibool expressed optimism about the potential outcomes: “This forum will catalyze the growth of lesser-known destinations within Thailand and showcase our commitment to developing tourism responsibly.”

With limited seating available, priority will be given to PATA members, ensuring an intimate setting for meaningful interactions. The event promises to be a landmark on this year’s tourism calendar and a beacon of hope for the revival and sustainable growth of global travel post-pandemic.
