In recent years, Anaheim’s focus on sustainability initiatives has led to significant progress in several key areas, fostering a more environmentally conscious community and contributing to a more resilient and sustainable future. Visiting Anaheim means experiencing results and not just ideas.

Thanks to initiatives such as green building standards, renewable energy adoption, and waste reduction programs, Anaheim has significantly decreased its environmental footprint while creating a healthier and more enjoyable environment for residents and visitors alike. Cleaner air and water contribute to better overall public health and well-being.

Anaheim and Earth Day

To commemorate Earth Day, the Anaheim Transportation Network (ATN) last year unveiled their newest electric vehicles, including the John Wayne Airport connector service, EVE. Since then, over 9.5 million residents, visitors and employees have used the ATN services over the past 12 months, helping to remove an estimated 2.48 million car trips from the area. The network helped reduce Greenhouse Gas Emissions by over 4,279 metric tons and conserved an estimated 508,000 gallons of petrol. The entire fleet emits zero toxic air contaminants and is one of the largest electric vehicle fleets in all of the USA.

The Anaheim Convention Center:

Not only is the Anaheim Convention Center the largest Convention Center on the West Coast in the USA, it’s also one of the most sustainable. The venue has several sustainability initiatives to become more environmentally friendly and reduce its ecological footprint. This includes pursuing Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification, a globally recognised rating system for green buildings. LEED certification demonstrates the center’s commitment to sustainability and recognises its efforts in areas such as energy efficiency, water conservation, and indoor environmental quality.

The Oak Canyon Nature Center

The Oak Canyon Nature Center offers educational programs and interpretive exhibits focusing on local ecology, wildlife, and environmental conservation. These programs are designed for people of all ages and provide hands-on learning experiences in nature. The Centre is in the Anaheim Hills Nature Park, which boasts more than 6km of trails through wooded canyons. It’s perfect for families and casual hikers. Check out wildlife along your journey and visit the museum for informative displays.

It’s just one of the many things to do in Anaheim on Earth Day 2024 to reconnect with nature, including hiking and biking. Explore the Weir Canyon Trail, which offers a moderate hike with beautiful wildflower scenery, and the Santa Ana River Trail and Bikeway.Disneyland Resort in California

In 2020, the Walt Disney Company updated its environmental policies based on guiding principles intended to drive its long-term environmental strategy and the everyday decision-making of its leadership, cast members, and employees worldwide. The Walt Disney Company 2030 Environmental Goals focuses on five main areas: Greenhouse Gas Emissions, Water, Waste, Materials and Sustainable Design.

By acknowledging the importance of sustainability as a principle that can be incorporated across all operations and strategic plans, Disneyland continues to inspire and educate guests while honouring its rich history.

The Disneyland Resort’s sustainability journey includes the attraction Autopia. Autopia is the only existing Tomorrowland attraction dating back to Disneyland Park’s opening day in 1955. When the cars first took to the road, they captured America’s fascination with the transportation trend at the time, the “freeway.” Over the years, the roadways and car styles have been updated to reflect modern sustainability ideals, which has continued to present an opportunity to reflect on sustainability and the future of transportation.

Today, Autopia serves as a platform for educating visitors about sustainable transportation practices, such as carpooling, using public transit, and reducing carbon emissions. Additionally, the Disneyland Resort has commenced work in converting the entire Autopia mini-car fleet to electric vehicles in the years ahead.

Sustainable Stays

Several hotels in Anaheim have adopted policies and programs demonstrating the will to prioritise sustainability and environmental responsibility.

● Clementine Hotel & Suites’ sustainability practices include replacing commercial equipment with energy-efficient appliances, such as LED lighting, low-flow toilets, and showerheads, to preserve water.

● The Desert Palms Hotel & Suites has adopted several sustainable practices, such as using slower-flow showerheads, biodegradable cleaning products, plates, and cutlery. Additionally, they give back 5% of each booking directly to the Autism Speaks Foundation and Susan G. Komen.

● Embassy Suites Anaheim North offers Carbon-Neutral Meetings to event planners to support their organisations’ environmental and social impact goals.

● The Hyatt Regency in Huntington Beach has energy and water initiatives in place and has made waste reduction a major priority. Some of their practices include waste sorting and recycling, food waste management, and donating gently used soaps and shampoos to organisations like Clean the World.
