Memphis Tourism is excited to announce the upcoming arrival into Australia of some of Memphis’ most loved artists. Ahead of their performance at this year’s Blues on Broadbeach Festival (May 16th – 19th), the revered Hi Rhythm Section, accompanied by renowned Memphis talents including Boo Mitchell, Lina Beach and Jerome Chism, will bring the blues to Sydney for a one-night-only event on May 15th. Eventgoers can also win a trip to Memphis during the event!
Thanks to the support from United Airlines and escorted tour company Cosmos, the talented cohort will arrive in Sydney before making their way to the Gold Coast, with just enough time to wow travel industry guests at the Oxford Art Factory from 5:45 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Those in attendance will witness what makes this group of Memphis musicians considered the best musicians Memphis has ever produced. The acclaimed Hi Rhythm Section have played on 26 consecutive gold and platinum records and will be accompanied by producer Boo Mitchell, who in 2016 made Memphis music history by winning Memphis’ first-ever Record of the Year Grammy for his work on the Mark Ronson / Bruno Mars hit Uptown Funk.
The talented singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Lina Beach will perform with them at the festival alongside the much-loved Memphis soulful performer Jerome Chism. This all-star collective will be celebrating 10 years of the critically acclaimed documentary “Take Me to the River,” with songs from the film to be performed during their set. They will bring the sounds of Memphis to two exclusive Memphis Tourism events in Auckland and Sydney ahead of their appearances at Blues on Broadbeach.
Chris Ingram, Director of Memphis Tourism Australia & New Zealand, said, “we simply couldn’t present such a significant travel trade initiative without the support from our valued and longtime partner United Airlines and Cosmos. Memphis Tourism is incredibly excited to bring these outstanding musicians to Australia to give the Australian travel industry a taste of why thousands from around the world visit the river city every year to experience Memphis’ blues & soul.”
The Sydney event will occur on Wednesday, May 15th, from 5:45 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Oxford Art Factory, 38-46 Oxford Street, Darlinghurst.
