Melco Resorts & Entertainment’s Splendors of China in-house program to instill national pride and patriotism through education and awareness was launched in 2016. As part of the program, Melco today invited delegates of the National People’s Congress (NPC) and Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), including Ms. Ho Sut Heng, Member of the NPC, President of the Macao Federation of Trade Unions; Mr. Kevin Ho King Lun, Member of the NPC, President of the Industry and Commerce Association of Macau; Mr. Ip Sio Kai, Member of the CPPCC National Committee, Chairman of the Macau Association of Banks; Dr. Fanny Vong Chuk Kwan, Member of the CPPCC National Committee, Rector of Macao University of Tourism and Mr. Lawrence Ho, Member of the CPPCC National Committee, Chairman & CEO of Melco to share the Spirits of China’s second session of the 14th NPC and second session of the 14th CPPCC, also known as Two Sessions 2024.
Mr. Yang Yi, Deputy Director of the Economic Affairs Department of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macau SAR; and Ms. Cheong Man Fai, Head of Youth Department of the Education and Youth Development Bureau (DSEDJ), were in attendance as the event’s Guests of Honor. Melco senior executives including Mr. Clarence Chung, Board Director; Dr. Kent Wong, Chief Advisor; Ms. Akiko Takahashi, Executive Vice President and Chief of Staff to Chairman and CEO, Mr. Alidad Tash, Executive Vice President, Analytics and Gaming Operations, and Dr. Raymond Lo, Senior Vice President, Head of Global Marketing and General Manager of Altira Macau and Mocha Clubs welcomed guests to the event.
The guest speakers shared the Spirits of the Two Sessions, including topics related to Macau, Hong Kong and the Greater Bay Area, the development of Hengqin and Macau and major economic policies, as well as those related to the people’s livelihood.
The sharing event was hosted at Studio City with an audience comprising Melco management and non-management colleagues and representatives from Macau’s educational institutes, including professors, teaching staff and students. The event was also broadcast live to further colleagues in Hong Kong and Macau. To further share the Sprits of the Two Sessions, a highlight video will be produced and broadcasted to colleagues at the company’s Heart of House areas.
In his speech, Mr. Lawrence Ho, Chairman & CEO of Melco, said, “The objective of today’s event is to actively convey the spirit of the ‘Two Sessions’, while leveraging its function as a catalyst for communication and taking a leadership role. This year’s report continues to provide excellent opportunities for enhancing Macau’s integration into the broader national development framework, Macau should look to upgrading its traditional industries, effectively implement the diversified development of the economy, develop new quality productive forces, promote first-class development, enhance Macau’s competitive edge, and further promote the appropriate and diversified development of the economy.”
Mr. Ho further delivered his thoughts on supporting the development of new quality productive forces featuring Macanese characteristics and telling well the story of China and Macau; continuing to align with national strategies and supporting the integration into various fields of national development; and the promotion of the core values of loving the motherland and Macau while safeguarding national security.
The Forum forms part of Melco’s Splendors of China learning program for promoting patriotism and the principle of ‘Loving the Country, Loving Macau’ through education on the culture, history, modernization and latest development of the Motherland to Melco colleagues and the wider community. Over 8,700 Melco colleagues have completed the ‘Splendors of China Passport Program’, with 98% of participants indicating that the program has made them more proud of China’s culture, and which has enabled them to become interested in developing further learning on Chinese history and culture.
