Tourism Yukon – A little bit Metal

Tourism Yukon is inviting travellers to unleash their ‘inner metal’ in Canada’s north-western territory, known for its hard-core weather, high-octane outdoor adventures, and mind-blowing northern lights.

This off-the-wall winter tourism marketing campaign features a metal-inspired video and supporting marketing pieces that showcase the Yukon’s remarkable winter offerings.

Snowshoeing, dogsledding, ice fishing, fat tire biking in the Yukon… it’s a little bit metal.

Sightseeing, cross-country skiing, snowmobiling, helicopter touring in the Yukon… it’s a little bit metal.

Northern lights, hot springs, Yukon in the winter… it’s a little bit metal.

While the temperatures and activities commonly associated with the Yukon winter might at first glance seem appropriate for only the bravest travellers, the modern comforts available in the territory make it more accessible than people might think. In fact, travellers need only be a ‘little bit metal’ to explore the Yukon.

The video features an original song with lyrics by Cossette (Vancouver) with Aasman Brand Communications. Following a public casting call, four Yukon musicians, representative of the territory’s diverse population, were hired to appear in the video to play alongside the recording as a Yukon metal band.

Winter activities featured in the video include snowshoeing, dogsledding, ice fishing, fat biking, flightseeing, cross-country skiing and snowmobiling, all easily accessible by international travellers.

Filming locations included Shallow Bay, Lake Laberge and Eclipse Nordic Hot Springs.

“Eclipse Nordic Hot Springs is famous for its annual Hair Freezing Contest, with patrons invited to soak their hair in the hot springs, allow it to freeze in hilarious positions and then pose for a photograph,” says Yas Yamamoto, Market Development Manager, Asia Pacific. “Check out the video at 1:49 for a demonstration of this wacky tradition.”

Heated by natural geothermal activity, just 20 minutes from the capital city of Whitehorse, the Eclipse Nordic Hot Springs features multiple outdoor soaking pools framed by large boulders, offering the perfect vantage point from which to view the northern lights.

The full song is available on Spotify and the music video can be viewed on Tourism Yukon’s website and YouTube channel.
