San José Del Cabo’s premier oceanfront resort, Viceroy Los Cabos, is thrilled to announce the debut of its newest restaurant, Awacate. Infused with the resort’s signature artistic touches, the approachable Mexican kitchen offers a lively atmosphere that will serve as a buzzy social hub for guests and locals alike. The casual restaurant is the newest addition to the property’s innovative dining venues – serving dishes that artfully blend regional flavors with modern Baja street-style culinary influences.
Awacate brings an effervescent spirit to the resort with eye-catching decor and a robust live music program featuring some of Baja’s most talented local musicians, bands and guest artists. Guests can relish in a delightful journey through the diversity of Mexico’s culinary heritage, sip a refreshing mezcal cocktail at the dynamic bar, and mingle with new and old friends. Complete with authentic design touches and a striking mural by regional virtuoso Fernando “Lelo” Juarez, nods to Mexican culture are reflected throughout.
With regionally-inspired and contemporary street-style dishes, Awacate’s seasonal menu is anchored in local coastal ingredients, including fresh seafood, tender meats and produce from local farms. The restaurant’s stunning open-air patio boasts native plants and citrus trees alongside a colorful and inviting dining space – truly embodying the festive spirit of communal dining in Mexico. Standout items will include authentic favorites such as street tacos, quesabirria, pambazo and guacamole as well as fresh Mexican seafood dishes such as Pastor style fish, Al Ajillo Octopus, and local oysters. Awacate’s menu infuses traditional Mexican culinary influences to create one-of-a-kind flavors, alongside a selection of regional wines and hand-crafted cocktails exclusively using spirits made in Mexico.
Viceroy Los Cabos’ iconic winding water pathways seamlessly lead guests to the entrance of Awacate’s terrace, imbued by colorful garden beauty and backdropped by the resort’s impressive exteriors. Drawing from the resort’s location in San José Del Cabo, Awacate’s bold design takes cues from the region’s distinctly colorful architecture. The restaurant’s mural serves as a centerpiece for the striking design accents – marked by vibrant and contemporary colors that define Jaurez’ artistic style and distinctive symbols that honor Mesoamerican folklore. The lion of the seas is depicted along with the eyes of Tlaloc, the Aztec god of rain. The traditional symbol of the skull reflects the legacy and inner essence of living beings encircled by maguey or agave stalks, encapsulating a chest that harbors the rich diversity of Mexico’s corn – quintessential to the region’s gastronomy. The blossoming spectacle also features marine life from the Sea of Cortez, capturing harmonious convergence of the diverse flora and fauna of Baja California Sur – the desert, terrestrial sea, mountains and sky.
In addition to Awacate, each of Viceroy Los Cabos’ five atmospheric dining venues provide a distinct and unforgettable culinary experience. “Nido”, translated from Spanish to mean “nest,” is both a visual centerpiece and social epicenter. Beach and poolside bar, Nidito – meaning “little nest” – is a lively extension of Nido restaurant, delivering a selection of refreshing cocktails and delicious bites. Located off the lower lobby, Casero – meaning “homemade” – and Otro Bar – meaning “another” – feature traditional Mexican cuisine and a Tequila Library equipped with house infusions, while the rooftop bar and lounge, Cielomar offers weekly entertainment and breathtaking views.
