The Opera House’s popular fish and chip eatery, The Harbour, returns to the Opera House’s Northern Broadwalk for a special summer series, bringing a modern twist to seafood classics like golden crunchy chips, potato scallops and seafood baskets.
Opening from Tuesday 9 January for four weeks only, the harbourside eatery will once again pay homage to the original seafood restaurant that operated in the same location from the late ‘80s to the early ’90s. After serving thousands of people during its first iteration last summer, the must-visit pop-up returns with live music, checkered tablecloths, outdoor seating and a historical photo wall of the original self-serve restaurant.
The Opera House has teamed up with Trippas White Group and its Executive Chef Lee Thompson to bring the retro restaurant back. Visitors can enjoy the striking harbour views while enjoying a refreshed menu serving up Aussie classics like prawn cocktails, fish burgers and, of course, fish and chips. A takeaway menu is also available.

Last year, The Harbour welcomed 6,000 locals, visitors, theatre-goers and families in January – all getting amongst Sydney’s vibrant summer atmosphere, while reminiscing about the history of what this space once was. With great food, an even better view and some incredible shows on offer, the Opera House is the perfect spot to enjoy summer,” said Sydney Opera House Chief Customer Officer Jade McKellar.
“It’s fantastic that once again The Harbour pop-up will be back at the Opera House for a second year. We have taken inspiration from, and paid homage to, the original seafood restaurant to create the nostalgia of long summers spent oceanside. Building on the success of last year, we’ve curated a refreshed menu featuring shucked oysters, grilled Huon Valley salmon, mango salsa, coconut rice and fish ’n’ chips. There’s no better way to enjoy summer than with striking views of the harbour and some of Australia’s best seafood,” said Executive Chef for Trippas White Group at the Sydney Opera House Lee Thompson.
The Harbour will operate from 9 January – 3 February, open Tuesday to Saturday from 11:30am to 8:30pm.
