New Caledonia Tourism and the national carrier, Aircalin is excited to announce that the direct Melbourne to Noumea route is being relaunched this Friday, the 8th of December.
The restarted route gives Melburnians greater access to Australia’s closest neighbour New Caledonia, reaching the tropical paradise in just under 3.5 hours. The highly anticipated flight from Aircalin means that more Australians along the East Coast will be able to easily fly to Noumea, adding to the already established routes from Brisbane and Sydney.
Restarted just in time for the Christmas holidays, New Caledonia is likely to be a popular destination for Melbourne residents to celebrate the end of 2023 and the start of 2024.
To celebrate the launch, New Caledonia Tourism has planned a special activation at Melbourne Airport to mark the occasion.
Passengers flying on the inaugural flight will receive exclusive gift bags from the destination at the New Caledonia Beach Club located by the gate. Traditional Kanak dancers, specially flown in from the South Pacific destination and live entertainment by a DJ will create a lively, tropical atmosphere with captivating performances throughout the day at check-in and the gate, giving travellers an insight into the culture they are about to experience. There will also be an ice cream cart, tropical cocktails and a media wall for people to snap a shot before jetting off to the destination.
A political delegation from New Caledonia will be in attendance, giving a speech and opening the new route with a traditional Kanak coutume (the exchange of gifts).
With the restarted route, Melbourne Airport will become the first airport in the country to exceed 100% of pre-pandemic capacity in the international market.
