In a world where the echoes of discord reverberate from Eastern Europe to the Middle East, a startling resolve has emerged among global travellers. A recent survey conducted by Global Rescue has unveiled a robust spirit of wanderlust, with approximately 45% of respondents declaring their intent to traverse both international and domestic landscapes during the winter holidays from November 2023 through January 2024.

This tenacity in travel plans comes despite a world grappling with the ramifications of war and unrest. The data from the Global Rescue Fall Traveler Sentiment and Safety Survey indicates a noteworthy split among holidaymakers: nearly a third (29%) are planning domestic excursions. In comparison, 11% set their sights beyond their borders. A mere 16% have anchored themselves at home during these times.

Dan Richards, CEO of The Global Rescue Companies and a member of the U.S. Travel and Tourism Advisory Board, notes a significant uptick in concern amongst travellers—most palpable in the Middle East. However, this has not quelled the thirst for international exploration. “International trip takers continue to gain comfort with wartime travel. We’ve seen this traveller behaviour since the war in Ukraine, and it’s evident today, even after the recent attack on Israel,” Richards asserts.

The survey’s findings suggest that while conflict looms, it boosts demand for emergency medical and security services. According to Richards, “There’s been a 33% increase in traveller purchases of security services following the onset of armed conflict between Israel and Palestinian groups.”

The unyielding courage of these holiday travellers, undeterred by global turmoil, speaks to a larger narrative—a testament to the human spirit’s resilience. As winter holidays beckon, many are choosing to embrace the world and its myriad experiences, undaunted by the shadows that dance at the periphery of our shared global village.
