Leading expedition cruise company HX (Hurtigruten Expeditions) has launched an Australian first, partnering with sustainability-focused retail movement, Green Friday, to educate consumers about the importance of mindful, more sustainable travel.
The eco-friendly alternative to Black Friday, launched in 2021 aims to tackle Australia’s mass-consumption habits through peak shopping periods, encouraging consumers to move away from impulsive shopping behaviours and embrace a more mindful approach to ‘ Buy Better’.
The initiative includes a Green Friday sale. Kicking off on 6 November, this three-week event offers travellers an extended booking period to secure discounts of up to 50% on adventures to some of the world’s most remote destinations.

Up to 50% off Warm-Water Adventures in the Galápagos and West Africa
Traditionally known as the ‘Polar expert,’ HX has expanded its signature, mindful adventures to warm waters, including the Galápagos Islands, now one of its top-selling destinations. This month, all four Galápagos itineraries are available for up to 50% off, including the 9-day In Darwin’s Footsteps itinerary and all three new routes for 2023: the 7-day Iconic Wildlife & Sublime Scenery itinerary, 7-day Nature and Wildlife Expedition Cruise, and 11-day Nine of the Best Isles route. Travellers will explore the UNESCO-protected archipelago onboard the fully refurbished MS Santa Cruz II, enjoying locally inspired dining, a Science Corner, Panorama bar, fitness centre, and outdoor hot tubs.
Travellers can also book select sailings of the highly anticipated West Africa Archipelago Cruise, a 13-day voyage from Dakar, Senegal, to Cape Verde and the Bissagos Islands launching this November. HX’s first-ever cruise to Africa, this itinerary explores the rich history and vibrant culture of Cape Verde, along with the remarkable biodiversity of the Bissagos Islands. The company will be the only cruise operator based in the region.
Up to 30% off Antarctica
HX has been at the forefront of Antarctic exploration for over two decades. For Black Friday, popular Antarctica cruises are now available at up to 30% off, including the best-selling 12-day Highlights of Antarctica on MS Fridtjof Nansen and MS Roald Amundsen, the world’s first two battery hybrid-powered cruise ships. Longer expeditions, such as the 18-day Antarctic Circle Expedition, which offers 11 days exploring the Seventh Continent, as well as itineraries to the Falklands, are included.
