In a groundbreaking move that has dramatically altered the landscape of mobile connectivity, Vodafone has introduced an innovative in-flight roaming service, making it possible for its customers to remain connected even at altitudes of 20,000 feet. This service, available at the unparalleled rate of $5 per day, marks Vodafone’s entry into the stratosphere, ushering in a new era of in-flight communication.
The esteemed Vodafone Group Executive Consumer, Mr. Kieren Cooney, expressed his views on this remarkable advancement. He stated, “Every day, we welcome new customers eager to escape the exorbitant prices of roaming. Whether you’re traversing continents or enroute to your destination, Vodafone is dedicated to ensuring you stay connected while providing substantial cost savings.”
For a modest daily fee, Vodafone postpaid customers are now empowered to talk, text, browse the internet, and stream in standard definition while on international journeys aboard selected airlines. This service promises a seamless user experience akin to 3G-like download and upload speeds facilitated through state-of-the-art satellite technology.
“With a daily charge of just $5, our customers can remain in touch with their loved ones, share their adventures in real-time, and even manage their work obligations from the skies. Most importantly, we assure transparency with no hidden charges, ensuring a shock-free billing experience upon your return,” added Mr Cooney.
This service is compatible with various devices, including phones, tablets, and mobile broadband plans. It is available on select flights with participating international airlines such as Emirates, Cathay Pacific, Etihad Airways, Lufthansa, Malaysia Airlines, and Singapore Airlines.
Activation of this service requires the device to be set in Airplane mode until post-takeoff. Upon the pilot’s signal, customers can deactivate Airplane mode to enjoy uninterrupted connectivity. Those opting out can remain in Airplane mode or adjust their settings via the Vodafone app.
Recent data from Vodafone highlights a significant spike in international travel among Australians, with a 31% increase in the past year, accounting for over a million travellers. The top destinations include New Zealand, the United Kingdom, China, India, Indonesia, Italy, the USA, the Philippines, Thailand, and Japan.
This launch follows the success of Vodafone’s $5 international roaming service, a market-leading solution available in over 100 coveted travel destinations worldwide.
“Vodafone’s $5 roaming isn’t merely the epitome of value in Australia; it also boasts the broadest global reach, extending across continents, making it the premier choice among Australian telecommunications providers,” concluded Mr Cooney.
