Murray River Paddlesteamers has added a special, one-time-only, two-night river cruise to its schedule this December just before Christmas, with extensive savings of 30 per cent for twin-share cabins and a zero surcharge for solo travellers, until sold out.

The new, one-of-a kind, short-break ‘Lock and Summer Saunter’ cruise from Torrumbarry Weir to Echuca in Victoria will take guests on a leisurely, two-night sojourn aboard the famous paddlesteamer, PS Emmylou.

Accommodating just 16 guests and plying Australia’s longest and most famous river, the Murray, the enchanting, wood-fired paddlesteamer, Emmylou, seamlessly blends the old with the new to offer lazy, luxury cruises that immerse passengers in a bygone era but with modern-day comforts.

Powered by a restored 1906 steam engine and totally refurbished with deluxe cabins and ensuites, the legendary, heritage-filled riverboat starred in the hit 1980s TV mini-series, ‘All the Rivers Run’, starring Sigrid Thornton, and is still one of the most recognisable and iconic paddlesteamers in Australia. PS Emmylou is the world’s only wood-fired paddlesteamer carrying overnight guests.

Filling a gap in the vessel’s schedule, the unique, new, two-night cruise will begin on December 18, 2023, with a short, complimentary coach tour from Echuca to Torrumbarry Weir where guests will board PS Emmylou for a rarely offered journey downstream through Lock 24 to enjoy the river’s pristine scenery and teeming birdlife. Cruising back upstream, the riverboat will tie up for the night at historic Perricoota Station. Next day, guests will enjoy a full, relaxing day, cruising to a secluded location for the night for a memorable riverside campfire and a hearty barbecue dinner ashore, with live entertainment under the stars. On day three, Emmylou will take guests on the final leg into the heritage river port of Echuca, where the journey ends.

Fares include onboard meals, daily shore excursions and experiences, V Line train both ways between Melbourne and Echuca, cruise transfers, Wi-Fi, gratuities, selected beers and wines with dinner and soft drink, bottled water and tea/coffee throughout the cruise.

Including a special 30 per cent discount, fares for the two-night ‘Lock and Summer Saunter’ cruise, departing December 18, 2023, are available from $800 per person, twin-share, for twin and double cabins. For solo passengers booking twin cabins, the normal single surcharge has been removed, while a reduced 30 per cent surcharge has been offered for solo use of double and queen cabins.   The savings are available until sold out.
