In September, Rex had both the highest rate of on-time departures (OTD) and the lowest rate of cancellations.

The Bureau of Infrastructure and Transport Research Economics (BITRE) released the latest reliability snapshot today.

It shows 77.8% of the 5717 flights Rex operated in September departed on time while 2.6% were cancelled, which trumped the operating performance of the six other airlines, including Virgin, Qantas and Jetstar.

Rex’s domestic network had an OTD rate of nearly 80%, 13% better than Virgin, 12.6% ahead of Jetstar and almost 10% in front of Qantas.

Rex cancelled just two Boeing 737 flights last month, representing a cancellation rate of 0.2%. Jetstar recorded the worst result, cancelling 371 flights or nearly 5% of its flights.

“These results once again re-inforce Rex’s reputation as the clear industry leader in terms of punctuality and reliability,” Rex Deputy Chairman, Hon John Sharp AM, said.

“They also demolish the claim by Qantas to be Australia’s most reliable airline, a lie which has been perpetuated for over six months and was repeated again before a Senate committee on
27 September.”

To set the record straight, here are the figures for the last FY and of the last three months:

“The simple fact is the figures don’t lie. Suppose you want the greatest certainty of reaching your destination on time. In that case, Rex is Australia’s largest independent regional and domestic airline, operating a fleet of 58 Saab 340 and 9 Boeing 737-800NG aircraft to 57 destinations throughout all states in Australia.

In addition to the airline Rex, the Rex Group comprises wholly owned subsidiaries Pel-Air Aviation (air freight, aeromedical and charter operator), the Australian Airline Pilot Academy with campuses in Wagga Wagga and Ballarat, and propeller maintenance organisation, Australian Aerospace Propeller Maintenance. Rex is also a 50% shareholder of National Jet Express (NJE), a premier Fly-In-Fly-Out (FIFO) charter and freight operator.
