The much-anticipated annual event, the Australian Tourism Export Council (ATEC) Meeting Place, is lined up for the end of October, promising an influential agenda and transformative discussions.
Often recognized as one of the paramount business-to-business rendezvous in the industry, this event transcends mere scheduling. It’s a canvas highlighting Australia’s destination palette’s freshest and most alluring offerings.
Peter Shelley, the dynamic Managing Director of ATEC, expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “Meeting Place’s arrival in South Australia stands as an emblematic bridge, linking Australia’s treasures to global ambassadors. The essence of our nation, coupled with our captivating tourism commodities, will be on full display.”
The event begins with a congenial welcome courtesy of the South Australian Tourism Commission. The day will be rich with pivotal discussions led by industry stalwarts addressing contemporary challenges and opportunities.
South Australia, with its vast landscapes and rich heritage, has seen a renaissance in tourism. Minister for Tourism Zoe Bettison reflected on the meteoric rise, noting a leap from $6.1 billion in visitor economy in June of the previous year to $9.9 billion this June. The ambitious 2030 target of $12.8 billion doesn’t seem far off.
Highlighting the rebound, Bettison added, “The last quarter alone marked a 24% uptick in inbound visitor spending, inching closer to its pre-pandemic figure of $1.2 billion. South Australia is reaping the benefits of significant events, augmented airline access, and burgeoning accommodation investments.”
Senator Don Farrell, the esteemed Federal Minister for Trade and Tourism, will grace the Meeting Place’s inaugural speech. One of the many highlights includes insights from the visionary Christian Watts, founder of Magpie Travel. Watts is set to delve into the revolutionary world of generative AI and its ripple effect on the tourism sector.
Attendees can anticipate immersive breakout sessions set against the picturesque backdrop of the Adelaide Hills, culminating in a lavish Gala Dinner at the avant-garde venue, Lot.100.
