Intrepid Travel has raised over $600,000 to support communities in Morocco affected by the devastating earthquake earlier this month.

The emergency Morocco Earthquake Appeal launched by Intrepid Travel’s not-for-profit arm, The Intrepid Foundation, has been a huge success, with Australians embracing the cause to support local people in the areas worst affected.

On top of the funds raised by donors, The Intrepid Foundation has pledged to donate $100,000 AUD, while covering the foundation’s administrative costs, ensuring 100 per cent of donations go directly to recovery efforts on the ground.

All funds that have been raised will go directly to two grassroots organisations. The High Atlas Foundation is providing emergency relief in the High Atlas Mountains, transporting essential supplies to people in need.  Meanwhile, Education for All will be rebuilding their boarding houses used to allow girls in the Atlas Mountains to continue their education.

Zina Bencheikh, the Morocco-based Managing Director EMEA at Intrepid Travel said: “Intrepid Travel was founded on the idea of using travel as a force for good and giving back to the places we visit. Morocco has always been close to the hearts of our travellers and our team at Intrepid, and this is our chance to give something back. The support from the Intrepid community has been amazing and we’re so grateful for their generosity.”

Intrepid Travel offers 33 multi-day tours in Morocco, with a major office in Marrakech and nearly 80 local team members. Intrepid resumed their tours in Morocco from September 13.
