The highly anticipated Life House in Palm Springs is now accepting reservations ahead of its autumn opening.
Nestled in the enchanting foothills of the Coachella Valley, Life House Palm Springs stands as a captivating reimagination of a 1960s mid-century hideaway, paying homage to the area’s desert botany, while infusing it with the allure of Old Hollywood opulence. The hotel’s restaurant & bar concept Minerva’s – features a beautiful pool house with cabanas, an indoor-outdoor bar & restaurant, and a shaded garden.
The design narrative of Life House Palm Springs unfolds through the view of a fictional 1960s luminary: an Old Hollywood star who escapes the bustling confines of Los Angeles for a more tranquil desert life. Here, the protagonist finds inspiration in the meticulous work of local horticulturists and desert conservationists—a bond that’s nurtured while creating the ultimate serene desert retreat: a greenhouse that elegantly balances relaxation and entertainment in both indoor and outdoor living spaces.
The hotel was designed by Life House’s award-winning design team led by Henriette Kockum. Desert Modernism, a prominent architectural style in Palm Springs, serves as the foundation for the design as the style combines mid-century modern interiors & architectural elements. while celebrating the beauty of the surrounding landscape. Seamlessly integrated into the property’s indoor-outdoor experience, each guest room faces the exterior along open-air corridors—a nod to the classic 1960s style that fosters a connection with the vibrant natural surroundings. The desert-inspired color palette—warm earthy tones complemented by accents of burnt orange, canyon live oak, and agave greens—is rendered in custom Life House beds. These feature native oak wood with fabric headboards adorned in sunset-reminiscent hues by F. Schumacher & Co. custom light sconces, inspired by the graceful folds of Japanese silk fans, grace ample bedside tables.
The exterior boasts a harmonious blend of natural-stone shingles and desert-sky wooden trims framing the low-pitched roof. Sand-colored concrete further enhances the building’s contemporary appearance, mirroring its natural surroundings, while its open-air corridors lead guests to well-appointed guest rooms, each oriented towards the stunning hills of the Coachella Valley.
Encircling the premises, the patio envelops the outdoor section of Mīnerva’s—the all-day Pool House, Bar, and Restaurant characterized by a succulent array of Californian, plant-forward dishes and cocktails. A mural by Mojave Desert-based artist Aaron Glasson warmly welcomes guests to the round-edged pool area, where they are served in cabana-style loungers and fringed sun umbrellas. Each lounger offers shaded respite and is adorned with geometric-patterned cushions.
Nearby, Minerva’s lime-washed bar counter draws inspiration from Japanese aesthetics and radiates an air of Old Hollywood glamour. This charm seamlessly extends into the property’s shaded Garden clubhouse, where intimate fire-pits beckon guests during star-studded evenings. Adjacent to the plush outdoor seating, a desert-inspired garden unfolds, featuring a charming gazebo that promises an intimate dining experience or an ideal venue for private events.
As dusk descends, Mīnerva undergoes a metamorphosis, enveloping guests in a sanctuary from the desert sun. A concealed indoor cocktail lounge takes center stage, showcasing a harmonious palette of rusty clay tones that evoke a jewel box ambiance. The opulent House of Hackney flora wallpaper creates an atmosphere steeped in the timeless desert botany.
Lime-washed design elements continue from Mīnerva’s to the property’s Living Room and lobby, where agave-inspired walls blend with geometric tiled cork floors and a high-gloss, reeded wood check-in column. Furniture showcases contrasting pops of color in luxurious velvets and mid-century geometric-patterned fabrics. Wall art features locally inspired motifs that carry into each of the property’s 66 guest rooms (29 double rooms, 33 standard king, and 4 suites).
