In celebration of the time-honored traditions of Hyatt Regency Bali and the spirit of togetherness with its sister property, Andaz Bali, the two resorts joined forces as dedicated associates organized a kite-flying festival in the beachfront area on Thursday, 24 August 2023, from 9:00 AM until 1:00 PM. The kites were designed, constructed, and tested in less than one month, and the event promised to capture the essence of bygone days and bring a sense of nostalgia to the shores, as part of Hyatt Regency Bali’s upcoming 50th anniversary celebration.

The event started with a parade from both resorts to the main festival area on the beach, followed by a welcome dance performance by talented associates from both resorts, and a gong-striking ceremony by Herve Mazella, Managing Director of both properties, to begin the event.

“The tradition of the Kite Festival dates back to the historical events at Bali Hyatt. Bali Hyatt consistently held a yearly Kite Festival since the hotel’s inception, and this festival quickly became an iconic associate activity. We believe that now is the perfect time to bring the tradition back, to coincide with the upcoming 50th anniversary of Hyatt Regency Bali, or Bali Hyatt as it was once known,” said Mr. Mazella.

Reflecting the efforts to preserve sustainability, contestants were
encouraged to create their kites using recyclable materials. Five teams, consisting of associates from the Culinary, F&B, Front Office, Rooms, Recreation, Housekeeping, and Back of the House departments, showed off their kites, each with different meanings and stories. Balinese kite experts Pak Dek Armika and Pak Dek Soto attended the event as guest judges, and the contestants were judged on the uniqueness of their kite concepts, the stories behind their kite characters, as well as their performance during the kite flight and the resistance of the kite when flying in the sky.
