Kyoto has a selection of wonderful hotels many of which opened in last 5 years or so. Opened in Kyoto, 2020. The Gate Hotel Kyoto Takasegawa by Hulic is the first hotel under The Gate Hotel brand in the western part of Japan. The hotel is located in one of the popular commercial areas in Kyoto city very convenient for shopping and sightseeing. The hotel is on the 2nd to 8th floor of “Rissei Garden Kyoto”, a complex building consisting of restaurants, stores, small library, and an event hall. “Rissei Elementary School” an old elementary school which was completed in 1927, is the former building of Rissei Garden Kyoto. Some parts of this valuable modern school building, has been preserved and renovated in the hotel, which differs to any other hotels in Kyoto city.
Also, this was a place where a demonstration experiment for previewing movie succeeded in Japan. It is now said that the site is the place where Japanese movies originated.
They offer 6 types of rooms, overlooking the Kamogawa river, the symbolic river in Kyoto, and Higashiyama, mountain district which also is a popular area for sightseeing. “Classy,” a spacious room, offers a splendid view of the town. “The Gate,” the suite room, has a panoramic view of the Higashiyama. “Essential,” the main room, offers a choice of several bed types to suit the guest’s request. “Cinema,” a concept room, offers a premium movie viewing experience equipped with a highperformance speaker and a large TV. All rooms are equipped with Slumberland mattresses, Nespresso coffee machines, Hansgrohe showers and original M’s system speakers.
The “Schoolhouse Building,” renovated from the old school building, inherits the building’s modern architectural culture and design of the school’s early days. It offers 5 types of rooms. All the rooms have a high ceiling and a large window overlooking the small river “Takase River” running in front of the hotel. “Lab,” another concept room, has works by Kyoto’s leading artist in the interior.
“Anchor Kyoto” (134 seats) offers a bistro style cuisine overviewing the Higashiyama area. The restaurant has table seats inside and table seats on the terrace, where the guest can feel the bustle of the town and enjoy the panoramic view. Also, they offer a private room with a terrace for small parties. The restaurant offers a wide variety of original dishes using local Kyoto ingredients. The breakfast has favourable comments, especially signature menu “Egg benedict” and “French Toast,” awarded as the best hotel breakfast in the past, and “Japanese style breakfast,” a breakfast introducing some traditional Japanese dishes with rice and miso soup. The guests can choose from the 3 dishes along with the side menu, such as salad, yogurt, and bread.
Lobby Lounge & Bar A panoramic view of the Higashiyama area greets the guests on the hotel’s top floor. A long bar counter overlooks the mountains and with relaxing sofa seats. Light meals, sweets, and a wide selection of cocktails, along with wine and Kyoto Sake.
