In honor of the 60th anniversary of Martin Luther King Jr.’s “I Have a Dream” speech during the March on Washington in 1963, Willard InterContinental Washington, D.C. is pleased to introduce the “I Have a Dream” package, commemorating the night he finished his momentous speech within the lobby of the landmark D.C. property.
Martin Luther King Jr. and his advisors spent several hours in Willard’s lobby to write the remaining remarks for his “I Have a Dream” speech on the night before the March on Washington on August 28, 1963, where he delivered his words on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial in front of 250,000 citizens. Dr. Clarence B. Jones, one of King’s political advisors, created a secluded area within the lobby surrounded by plants with the support of the Willard team to allow them to complete the iconic text in private. Here, King and his advisors worked to craft his speech, regarded today as one of the most influential in history, for the following day. Willard InterContinental continues to proudly honor King’s late-night writing session as one of the many prominent moments in American history that took place within its walls.
Beginning at $369 and available for stays through the end of August across the dates of this year’s March on Washington, Willard’s “I Have a
