It was a massive weekend at Thredbo after the resort hosted three of its biggest events over two days and unveiled a new Range Rover House activation that is running until August 20.
Thredbo received another 5cm of fresh snow on Sunday night with snow continuing to fall this morning. After another 5cm fresh snow top-up last Thursday and multiple nights of snowmaking last week, the atmosphere was electric over the entire weekend with guests enjoying the huge variety of events in addition to fun skiing and snowboarding conditions.
On Friday 11, Thredbo hosted the 9th Annual Transfer Banked Slalom which saw 285 snowboarders turn out to High Noon to race down the purpose-built slalom course. The sun was shining and it was a great day for the snowboarding community with many describing it as the best Transfer Banked Slalom to date. Snowboarders of all ages and abilities came from all over to compete with the oldest rider being 62 and the youngest being 7. International riders competed from all over the globe including Canada, Sweden, Japan, Great Brittain and the United States. A number of the world’s best snowboarders raced with the likes of Valentino Guseli, Scotty James, Tess Coady, Jarryd Hughes, Josie Baff, Nate Johnston, Robbie Walker, Marguerite Cossettini, Freya Hammerlein and Juliette Pelchat. After a heated battle, it was international rider Karel van Goor and Australian Olympian and Thredbo Ambassador Tess Coady who were the Open Mens and Womens Champions for 2023.
From August 10 – 12, the Rainbow Mountain Festival took over Thredbo with 3-Days of pride-filled celebrations. With welcome drinks, a Rainbow On-Mountain Cocktail Party, a Pride Ride down Supertrail, a Cloud-9 inspired Rainbow Room lunch at Kareela Hutte and Big Deck Energy DJ sessions at Black Sallees, it was an incredible celebration of diversity, inclusivity, visibility, community and love. One lucky attendee even won an all inclusive trip to Aspen Snowmass for two, supported by Aspen Snowmass, Delta Airlines and Limelight Hotel.
On Saturday night, Thredbo hosted one of its biggest-ever First Base après events presented by Canadian Club. The Poof Doof DJs were the talent for the evening, returning to the stage at Alpine Bar with a high energy performance like no other. Capping off the Rainbow Mountain Festival, the event saw huge numbers turn out to dance under the fireworks with glitter, rainbows and sparkles aplenty.
On Friday, Thredbo and Range Rover unveiled a brand-new Range Rover House experience. Running until August 20, this curated activation has taken over the luxurious Rockpool Lodge to give guests the opportunity to partake in Range Rover Sport Experience Drives before relaxing in the lodge. After driving through beautiful alpine roads and hitting the slopes, attendees can embrace the après ski lifestyle with wellness programs such as sound healing, breathwork, saunas, cold water immersion and more. Evening entertainment includes live music, exclusive dining events and wine and spirit tastings.
With fresh snow and more in the forecast, skiers and snowboarders are getting excited for upcoming conditions with snowfall expected to continue throughout this entire week plus colder temperatures forecast to remain, allowing for suitable snowmaking conditions.
The fun isn’t finished yet with lots more events still to come on Thredbo’s massive winter events calendar. This Friday, Battle on The Bluff will be bringing the action for a freeride skiing and snowboarding competition with 20K cash and prizes on the line. Next weekend, White Claw Weekend is taking over Alpine Bar with a line-up of female DJs taking to the stage to deliver more of Thredbo’s famous après entertainment.
