MICHELIN Guide Hanoi & Ho Chi Minh City 2023In a groundbreaking event for the country’s gastronomy scene, Michelin announced its inaugural guide for Vietnam, specifically for Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. This momentous recognition highlights the rich culinary diversity and unique offerings of 103 restaurants, marking a new chapter for Vietnam on the global culinary map.

The historical and cultural richness of Vietnam’s cuisine has been immortalized in this Michelin guide. 103 restaurants (48 in Hanoi and 55 in Ho Chi Minh City) have been featured in this first edition. The Michelin star, signifying high-quality cuisine and an exceptional dining experience, was awarded to four standout eateries: GIA, Hibana by Koki, Tam Vi in Hanoi, and Anan Saigon in Ho Chi Minh City.

“The inaugural selection in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City paints a vibrant picture of the diverse culinary offerings these two cities boast,” said Gwendal Poullennec, International Director of the MICHELIN Guide.

The selected restaurants have left a mark on Michelin inspectors with their eclectic blend of traditional and modern cooking techniques, offering food lovers a delicious adventure through Northern Vietnam’s distinct flavours.

In the heart of Vietnam, Hanoi, the 48 recommended restaurants have captivated foodies with their authentic Vietnamese cuisine and Northern flavour profile. This city, known for its tranquil ambience and charmingly old quarters, is a haven for small eateries and shops offering exquisite dishes crafted with natural flavours, spices, and herbs.

On the other hand, Ho Chi Minh City, a bustling metropolis and rapidly growing gastronomic hotspot, boasts 55 restaurants in the guide. The city offers a unique energy to all travellers, with a diverse array of cuisine prepared by a dynamic mix of talented and young local chefs eager to plate their creative culinary ideas. Anan Saigon stood out, becoming the city’s sole Michelin-starred establishment.

The publication of the inaugural Michelin Guide has undoubtedly bolstered Vietnam’s burgeoning reputation as a food lover’s paradise. The Michelin inspectors were thrilled to discover the country’s rich gastronomic landscape and anticipate unearthing even more culinary treasures in the coming years.
