Muogamarra Nature Reserve, a hidden paradise of beautiful wildflowers located just north of Sydney near Cowan, will once again open its gates to the public for six weeks this August and September.

Visitors have the unique opportunity to explore the reserve when its glorious collection of more than 900 species of native wildflowers come into bloom and transform the site into an array of colour.

The reserve opens to the public for just six weeks each year to protect its significant Aboriginal cultural heritage and fragile ecosystem.

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) is encouraging those keen to experience the unique area to get in early and book a limited guided or self-guided tour, which is essential to gain access to the reserve.

Visitors can choose to explore different areas of the reserve with four guided tours on offer, all led by experienced NPWS volunteers.

Those who wish to take it at their own pace can also enjoy the spectacular reserve on a bookable self-guided walk on each Sunday and selected Saturdays throughout the six-week open season.

Nature-lovers will love seeing seeing waratahs, majestic angophoras, old-man banksias, pink boronias and delicate native orchids.

Walking tracks around the nature reserve offer stunning views of the Hawkesbury River and Berowra Creek, as well as expansive views of Bar, Milson and Spectacle islands.

Visitors can also view Aboriginal rock engravings, colonial artefacts, convict-built roads and scenic rainforest.

Muogamarra Nature Reserve will be open on selected days between Saturday 12 August and Sunday 17 September 2023. For more information visit nswparks.info/muogamarra
