Summer is coming and this year it’s time to celebrate with Tokyo’s major fireworks and many other festivals set to return for the first time since 2019! Additional highlights to the calendar include the much-anticipated opening of Warner Bros. Studio Tour Tokyo – The Making of Harry Potter. And Tokyo’s leading interactive digital art attraction “teamLab Planets” is creating a summer-exclusive world where sunflowers bloom, the attraction has reported record numbers of international visitors in the month of April, with around 1 in 10 foreign tourists visiting the Toyosu site.

46th Sumida River Fireworks Festival

Back for the first time since 2019, this year locals and visitors will be donning yukata and geta and taking to the streets of Tokyo’s downtown for one of the largest and most famous fireworks festivals in Tokyo. Dating back to 1733, this year, the festival will run for around 90 minutes launching an incredible 20,000 fireworks.

When: 29 July 2023 from 7pm

Kagurazaka Matsuri (Japanese Lantern Plant Market and Awa-Odori Festival)

One of many Tokyo summer festivals, Kagurazaka will come alive again this year with the lively ambience of old Tokyo. Known for markets selling hozuki (Japanese lantern plant) and many other local stalls. The festival highlight is the Awa-odori dance, groups of talented musicians and dancers form a procession to dance along Kagurazaka-dori Street.

Tsukiji Honganji Temple Noryo Bon odori Festival

Tsukiji is the former location of Tokyo’s fish market and the current location of Tsukiji Outer Market.

Every summer a huge tower called a yagura is built at Tsukiji Hongwanji Temple and large numbers of locals and visitors come to dance around it. During the festival, some of Tsukiji’s most well-known restaurants and food companies set-up food stands giving the festival the a reputation as “the most delicious Bon Dance in Japan.”

Warner Bros. Studio Tour Tokyo – The Making of Harry Potter

This brand-new attraction will take fans behind-the-scenes of spellbinding movies and discover secrets of the Wizarding World. Warner Bros. Studio Tour Tokyo will open on 16th June and will be the largest indoor Harry Potter attraction in the world and the first Warner Bros. Studio Tour to open in Asia. The Studio Tour Tokyo will feature exclusive sets only available at this location.

teamLab Planets – summer exclusive event

At teamLab Planets TOKYO has reported record numbers of international visitors to the Toyosu based location this year. This summer, for a limited period only, the artwork known as “Drawing on the Water Surface Created by the Dance of Koi and People – Infinity” will be transformed into a space where sunflowers bloom.
