KAYAK’s latest consumer research*** found that around 59% of Australians see international holidays as more memorable than domestic, making it little surprise that searches for overseas flights are up around 68% over this period compared to 2019*.

The research also indicated that beach trips are part of many Aussies’ core memories, and iconic beach locations remain a great value option, including the Gold Coast at around $280 average for a return economy flight or the Sunshine Coast for about $317. For those after an affordable international getaway, then Vanuatu at $657 average return economy, or Bali at $734, both offer great prices for Aussie travellers*.”

  • The average night in a 3-4 star domestic hotel price is $287, internationally it currently sits at around $325

  • Solo hotel bookings for both domestic and international hotels are on the rise, up around 168% compared to 2019. Alongside this, people are booking longer hotel stays with the average length of stay now sitting at around 6 days (13% up on 2019).

  • The most searched domestic hotel destinations are Sydney (average price $309), Surfers Paradise ($267), Melbourne ($208), Brisbane ($241) and Perth ($204).

  • The most searched international hotel destinations are London (average price $331), Paris ($318), New York ($500), Amsterdam ($258) and Honolulu ($469).
