Jetstar Asia has named the Children’s Cancer Foundation (CCF) as a 2023 charity partner, recognising the incredible work the organisation does in supporting children with cancer and their families.
As part of the partnership, the Singapore low-fares carrier will support various initiatives throughout the year including team member volunteering, organising donation drives and helping spread the word about the invaluable work of the CCF.
The partnership will start with a Mother’s Day celebration with Jetstar Asia and partners gifting a vacation package, including air fares and accommodation to Phuket, to a well deserving family impacted by childhood cancer.
Madam Tasha, a single mother with four children aged 14, 16, 18 and 20, has never travelled overseas before and was nominated by CCF to recognise the unconditional love and support she’s provided her family after her son was diagnosed with cancer.
Madam Tasha’s son, Qu’syarie was diagnosed with Burkitt Lymphoma in primary school, with the life-threatening illness affecting his mobility. With his mum’s love, care and encouragement, combined with his hard work and resilience, he was able to complete his treatment and regain his ability to walk. He is now studying at a local secondary school while also helping to take care of his younger siblings.
Jetstar Asia’s CEO Barathan Pasupathi and volunteer Board of Director for CCF said the airline was proud to partner with an organisation that was providing such important support to those in need.
“We’re so pleased that we can play a small part in bringing some joy to families who are facing such challenges,” Mr. Barathan said.
“This is a charity the team at Jetstar Asia is very passionate about and with our common goal to provide genuine care for people, I believe this is the start of a wonderful partnership.”
Children’s Cancer Foundation CEO Ms Peng Haiying shared that “resources are strained, and families impacted by childhood cancer are burdened with worries about their child’s recovery.
“Therefore, families would often be hesitant to embark on any travel plans or even have time to plan for travelling.
“Jetstar Asia’s holiday sponsorship provides them with an opportunity to travel together as a family and create enduring memories together.”
Recently, seven Jetstar Asia team members, including CEO Barathan Pasupathi and female cabin crew Susan Wong, volunteered to shave their heads as part of the Hair for Hope (HfH) event on 30 April that helped raise more than $70,000 for the Children’s Cancer Foundation.
Children’s Cancer Foundation’s (CCF) annual flagship fundraiser campaign, Hair for Hope (HfH) is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year with the theme ‘Let’s get the ball rolling’ to highlight the need of a more supportive community towards children with cancer.
