TRENZ, Aotearoa New Zealand’s most significant international business-to-business travel and trade event, began on May 8 at Te Pae Christchurch Convention Centre. The four-day event features 1500 delegates and over 330 high-quality international buyers from 25 markets. Over 300 New Zealand tourism businesses are showcasing their products and services, including accommodation, transport, and activities, for the coming international holiday seasons.
The event is managed by Tourism Industry Aotearoa (TIA) on behalf of the Tourism Industry New Zealand Trust, with support from its Premier Sponsor, Air New Zealand, and Official Supporter, Tourism New Zealand. TIA has held the position of the peak body for the tourism industry in Aotearoa, New Zealand, for 70 years.
At the opening function for TRENZ, TIA Chief Executive Rebecca Ingram said, “TRENZ plays an important role in the recovery of New Zealand’s valuable tourism industry, it ensures that New Zealand is well positioned on a world stage.” Ali Adams, the CEO of host city agency ChristchurchNZ, said, “Hosting TRENZ is another fabulous milestone for our city, and we are excited to be showcasing one of the world’s newest cities to you.”
The theme for TRENZ 2023 is tūhura, which means discover, bring to light, unearth, open up, explore, and investigate. “Every visitor embarks on their journey of discovery – unearthing their New Zealand – and making memories that shape them forever,” said Rebecca Ingram.
In addition to TRENZ, TIA delivers a comprehensive and diverse range of industry events, including the New Zealand Tourism Awards, Discussing Tourism regional events, and the Tourism Summit Aotearoa. TIA is also deeply involved in discussions on recovery and what the future of tourism in New Zealand will look like.
TRENZ is an important event for New Zealand’s tourism industry. It allows businesses to showcase their products and services to international buyers and positions New Zealand on the world stage. This year’s event in Christchurch is another exciting milestone for the city and a chance for visitors to discover what New Zealand offers.
