GBTAThe Global Business Travel Association (GBTA) has expressed its support for the recent announcement by the Biden Administration to no longer require non-U.S. travellers entering the United States to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and provide related proof of vaccination upon request. The move, which takes effect on May 12, coincides with the end of the coronavirus public health emergency and the Presidential Proclamation on air travel.

The GBTA, representing the global business travel industry, has actively supported the safe and thoughtful re-opening of the U.S. and the return of international travellers throughout the pandemic. The decision to end the vaccine mandate is a positive development that will encourage and facilitate international air travel, especially for business travellers.

Suzanne Neufang, CEO of GBTA, said the move “will help free up critical time and resources, such as global staff and operations of airlines and airports, contributing to an improved passenger experience.” She added that it would also pave the way for business travel and its critical role in supporting and growing economies, companies, and teams worldwide.

According to GBTA’s April 2023 Business Travel Outlook poll, international business travel is continuing to return. Corporate travel buyers surveyed estimate their international bookings have returned to 63% of their 2019 pre-pandemic levels, up from 54% reported in January. Their current spending is back to 66%, up from 58%. However, the poll also revealed that disruptions during business travel have somewhat or significantly reduced 50% of respondents’ willingness to travel for work.

The decision to end the vaccine mandate for non-U.S. travellers entering the U.S. is expected to boost the recovery of the travel industry, which the pandemic has severely impacted. It is hoped that it will encourage more businesses to resume travel and re-engage with their international partners, leading to a revival of global trade and commerce.
