The State of Hawai‘i’s Department of Business, Economic Development & Tourism (DBEDT) released its March 2023 visitor statistics report today.
Total visitor spending reached $1.84 billion in March 2023, representing 23.4 percent growth compared to March 2019. This contributed to the first quarter 2023 total visitor spending of $5.37 billion, a substantial 19.5 percent increase from $4.49 billion in the first quarter of 2019. The number of visitors arriving to the state continues to remain below that of 2019.
Visitors’ spending directly supports our kama‘āina businesses, shops, restaurants, activities, attractions, and events. As we continue to educate visitors before, during and after they arrive about the kuleana they share with our community to mālama Hawai‘i and the meaningful ways they can support our people and places, our message is resonating globally. We thank our hardworking industry partners for caring for their guests and joining in our visitor education efforts to improve the well-being of Hawai‘i.
