The inauguration of these new routes comes as both countries celebrate the 50th anniversary of their diplomatic relations. Vietjet’s new flights will operate on an A330 wide-body aircraft, with a flight time of nearly nine hours. The flights from Melbourne to Ho Chi Minh City will depart every Sunday, Wednesday, and Friday, while flights from Ho Chi Minh City to Melbourne will be on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. Flights from Sydney to Ho Chi Minh City will depart on Mondays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, and from Ho Chi Minh City to Sydney on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays.

Minister Farrell expressed his excitement about the growing connection between the two countries, saying, “The opening of Vietjet Air’s new flights demonstrates the growing connection between Australia and Vietnam in this 50th Anniversary year of diplomatic relations.” He also welcomed Vietjet’s plans for new routes, including the direct flight to Brisbane.

The new route from Ho Chi Minh City to Brisbane will commence on 16 June 2023, with two return flights per week on Mondays and Fridays. Governor-General of Australia, David Hurley, recently visited Vietnam and welcomed the new flight routes connecting the two countries.

This move is expected to strengthen further the economic and cultural ties between Vietnam and Australia. Vietnam has become an increasingly popular destination for Australian tourists, with nearly 500,000 Australians visiting Vietnam in 2019 alone. The new flight routes will make it easier for Australians to travel to Vietnam and for Vietnamese tourists to explore Australia’s many attractions.
