APT and the MS Caledonian Sky made history this week by becoming the first ever cruise ship to stop at Dampier Port as the passenger ship sailed between Broome and Perth in WA.
The small expedition ship docked in Dampier, located just south of Port Headland, to a whirlwind of excitement with guests and crew onboard being honoured with a tugboat water display.
Each APT passenger was presented with a commemorative medallion, made by the Perth Mint courtesy of Tourism WA, at a
commemorative morning tea at the Woodside Visitor Centre at the conclusion of the Rock Art tour at Murujuga National Park. Engraved with “MS Caledonian Sky Maiden Call – Dampier 12 April 2023” it was a great hit with the guests onboard.
The ship’s captain, Bill Fenelon was then presented with a plaque on behalf of the WA Government made of WA Marri Wood (pictured below).
The 84 passengers disembarked the ship and visited all Dampier’s top tourist spots including the Murujuga Cultural Landscape and Red Dog Memorial Statue.
The ship will visit the port three times this month on its Colours of the Coral Coast cruise, before commencing its season cruising the Kimberley between Broome and Darwin.
