The property, previously known as the 1906 Homestake Mining Co. ore processing plant, became Deadwood’s only large-scale event centre and casino in 2011. The transformation of Deadwood Mountain Grand’s hotel is set to enhance the hotel’s guest experience by providing an elevated mountain lodge feel that blends rustic and industrial aesthetics with modern and chic features. The upgrades will include attention to the 93 hotel rooms, five suites, and common guest areas such as the lobby and restaurant. Susan Kightlinger, Deadwood Mountain Grand’s general manager, said, “Providing our guests with a unique experience is our top priority at Deadwood Mountain Grand. We are excited to welcome our guests to our refreshed hotel, while continuing to create memorable stays for our visitors.”

The hotel’s refreshed interiors were designed by Ste Marie Design, ensuring that the rich history of Deadwood is reflected throughout the hotel using artwork, materials, and finishes. In collaboration with Deadwood History Inc., the design team conducted extensive research on the town’s history to create a design that balances the rugged history of Deadwood with contemporary finishes. The lobby and guest rooms will feature industrial and luxe materials such as brass, bronze, wood, velvet, suede, leather, and sherpa.

The lobby was designed to be a conversational space with two ample seating areas, each centred by beautiful stone fireplaces and ambient layers of lighting. Guests can take in the stunning views of the Black Hills through large windows that frame the wooded hills. The check-in experience will add an element of nostalgia, with all the check-in desks designed to give the illusion of old mining carts.

The hotel’s bathrooms will also feature elevated fixtures and finishes honouring Deadwood’s history. A letter written by Sarah Sawyer to W.E. Adams of the influential Adams family is enlarged with a custom watercolour overlay as a wall covering. The brass-illuminated mirrors and shelving detail on the vanities mimic gold mining pans.

Deadwood Mountain Grand Hotel features 93 luxury rooms and five beautifully-appointed suites, all with fireplaces. Additional amenities include complimentary valet parking, concierge services, a heated indoor pool, a hot tub, a fitness centre, a gift shop, and dog-friendly accommodations. The renovations are expected to be complete by the summer of 2023, right in time for Deadwood’s action-packed summer season.

In conclusion, the transformation of Deadwood Mountain Grand’s hotel is set to provide an elevated mountain lodge experience that blends the town’s rich history with contemporary finishes. The hotel’s refresh is designed to give guests a unique experience honouring Deadwood’s past while creating a memorable stay for visitors.
