Pandaw Cruises, the pioneer of expedition cruising on the Upper Mekong River in Laos, has announced a new itinerary for 2023. The company is future-proofing its expeditions and providing an enhanced experience for guests by updating its itinerary. The new 10-night itinerary will sail between Chiang Khong in Thailand and Pak Lay, a large town just upstream of Vientiane, with a shorter and more in-depth sailing experience along the Mekong.

With the continued construction of several planned dams along the Mekong in Laos already impacting water levels in the region, Pandaw has adjusted its itinerary to ensure guests have a memorable experience while enjoying a comfortable and safe journey.

Touring in Vientiane will no longer be included in the 10-night itinerary but will be offered as a pre or post-cruise extension. Instead, Pandaw will spend extra time in the UNESCO city of Luang Prabang and introduce an exciting new excursion at the Mekong Elephant Park in Pak Beng.

At the Mekong Elephant Park, guests will have the opportunity to learn how Laos received its name as the ‘Land of a Million Elephants’. The park is one of the few sanctuaries dedicated to rehabilitating and protecting elephants while providing alternate employment for the Mahouts, who traditionally use elephants for logging or entertainment.
