Business Events Sydney (BESydney) recently hosted 50 influential planners and media from Asia in its Business Events Australia Asia Mega Famil Showcase. The three-day event highlighted Sydney’s top offerings for corporate and incentive events. The delegates from China, India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, and Singapore were treated to an itinerary that showcased Sydney’s harbour and the city’s cultural and natural attractions.
The showcase kicked off with an Aussie welcome at Taronga Zoo’s Gili Rooftop and a sneak preview of the Zoo’s new Nura Diya Australia precinct. The precinct features Cammeraygal Country storytelling and indigenous animal encounters. The delegates then enjoyed a surprise-filled official Welcome dinner at the Harbourfront Seafood Restaurant.
The Jackson, Sydney’s newest luxury yacht venue, continued the harbour theme with a gala dinner on the water the following day after business networking sessions. The Art Gallery of NSW showcased its recently opened North Building wing venues, while the Royal Randwick Racecourse did the same for the new flexible entertainment and hosting spaces at the WINX Stand. The Handa Opera’s Madama Butterfly on the harbour concluded the Sydney experience in grand style.
The Indian delegation comprised 12 people and was also treated to a regional tour of Port Stephens and the Hunter Valley. They experienced the region’s diverse culinary and nature offerings, from dolphins, koalas, and stunning sand dunes to wine, cheese, chocolate, and gin tastings. The group also tapped into their sporty side at the Sydney Cricket Ground, the site of many legendary clashes between India and Australia. They met Australian one-day cricket legend Michael Bevan and rode a Harley Davidson to Bondi.
BESydney CEO, Lyn Lewis-Smith, said that the showcase partnership with Business Events Australia was the perfect opportunity to provide a taster of the breadth and depth of new products across Sydney and its regional areas. “Sydney offers such a unique and seamless blend of ancient indigenous history, modern culture, rich nature, luxurious experiences, and big city vibes,” she said.
Tourism Australia’s Executive General Manager of Commercial and Business Events Australia, Robin Mack, was pleased with the showcase’s outcome. “Already the Showcase has generated business leads for Australia, highlighting the real tangible results of our distribution activity,” he said.
International Planner from China Cyts M.I.C.E. Service Co., Ms Katherine Tam, was impressed with Sydney’s offerings. “There are new attractions providing new facilities and services, and Sydney provides unique seafood and wines,” she said.
International Planner from India, Akbar Holidays, Sajin Nawshad, Director, added, “I would recommend the countryside of NSW if we had our guests coming into Sydney for a trip extension. It was pristine, the experiences are outstanding, the hospitality was just brilliant.”
The Business Events Australia Asia Mega Famil Showcase successfully showcased Sydney’s top offerings for corporate and incentive events. The showcase aimed to give international planners from the Asia region the confidence to pitch to Australia for their next business event. With the positive feedback from the delegates, it seems that the showcase has achieved its goal.
