Qatar Airways has again shown its commitment to the community by donating AUD$ 80,000 to The Good Friday Appeal. This annual fundraising event supports The Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne, Australia. This marks the third year that the airline has supported the initiative, which brings together various community sectors to help provide essential medical care for needy children.
The Good Friday Appeal has been in existence since 1931. It has raised over $399 million, supporting medical research, state-of-the-art equipment and technology, patient and family-centred care programmes, and fostering staff excellence through education programmes, scholarships and fellowships. The annual fundraising event culminates in a telethon every Good Friday, which is a significant source of funds for the hospital.
As part of its support for the initiative, Qatar Airways is gifting two business class tickets to Europe to the charity’s raffle to generate further donations from the community. The airline’s team members based at its Australian headquarters in Melbourne will also be volunteering their time on the day, assisting staff at the hospital and taking calls from donors during the telethon.
Qatar Airways Regional Manager for Australia and New Zealand, Mr Justin Kestel, expressed his delight at being part of the Good Friday Appeal. He said, “Every year, the Good Friday Appeal inspires the wider community to unite for a good cause. Qatar Airways is honoured to play a part in raising funds for the Appeal, to ensure The Royal Children’s Hospital continues to provide world-class care for kids in need. We remain committed to serving the Australian market, by providing both a world-class airline experience, and supporting local causes.”
Qatar Airways is a multiple award-winning airline recognised as the ‘Airline of the Year’ at the 2022 World Airline Awards, managed by the international air transport rating organisation Skytrax. The airline continues to be synonymous with excellence, having won the main prize for an unprecedented seventh time (2011, 2012, 2015, 2017, 2019, 2021 and 2022) while also being named ‘World’s Best Business Class’, ‘World’s Best Business Class Lounge Dining’ and ‘Best Airline in the Middle East’. Qatar Airways flies to more than 150 destinations worldwide, connecting through its Doha hub, Hamad International Airport.
In conclusion, Qatar Airways’ support for The Good Friday Appeal is a testament to its commitment to giving back to the community. Through its donation and volunteer efforts, the airline is helping ensure that The Royal Children’s Hospital continues to provide world-class care for needy children. This is an excellent example of corporate social responsibility and demonstrates how businesses can use their resources to impact society positively.
