Brisbane Airport ( BNE )As school holidays kicked off in New South Wales, Victoria, Western Australia, ACT, Northern Territory, and New Zealand, Brisbane Airport is experiencing its busiest week since the pandemic struck, with a forecast of 426,000 people passing through the international and domestic terminals in just seven days from Friday 31 March to Thursday 6 April. This is a significant boost for Queensland’s visitor economy, as people take advantage of the holiday period to get away and enjoy the summer-like weather in the region.

Last Friday, 31 March, was the busiest post-pandemic day at BNE, with 66,223 people travelling through the airport. Although this is still less than the pre-pandemic record of 83,867 passengers set on 22 December 2017, it is a promising sign of recovery for the travel industry. With New Zealand being Queensland’s most significant overseas contributor of visitor numbers, an influx of tourists is expected during this period.

According to Stephen Beckett, Head of Public Affairs for Brisbane Airport Corporation, “When Brisbane Airport is busy, Queensland’s tourism economy is busy, which is great for jobs. And right now, the lure of our summer-like weather is magnetically attractive to southerners.” The surge in tourism during the Easter school holidays is a welcome relief for businesses and jobs impacted by the pandemic.

However, with the increase in the number of people driving to the airport rather than catching taxis or rideshare, passengers are advised to book parking well in advance to avoid inconvenience. The airport recommends arriving 90 minutes before domestic departures and 3 hours before overseas travel to cope with busy roads, parking, terminals, or taxi or rideshare services delays.

In addition to these tips, Brisbane Airport provides a range of services and amenities to make passengers’ transit through the airport as hassle-free as possible. These include fast-track immigration and security, premium lounges, and even a pet hotel for furry travellers.

The surge in travel during the Easter school holidays is a promising sign for the travel industry and Queensland’s economy. With the state’s natural beauty and unique experiences, it’s no wonder that so many people are flocking to the region. Whether you’re a local or a tourist, Brisbane Airport provides a convenient and comfortable gateway to explore all that Queensland has to offer.
