Arinex team member Brittany Batchelor plants a tree.Arinex, an event management company based in Australasia, has promoted sustainable tourism and conservation by becoming the first to support a reforestation project for business event groups visiting Tropical North Queensland. During their recent conference in Cairns, Arinex team members had the opportunity to learn about and participate in the Wongabel Mabi Forest Restoration project to revitalise the critically endangered Mabi Forest ecosystem.

Situated on the Atherton Tablelands near Cairns, the project is a collaboration between Reforest, Terrain, and the local community. Their goal is to revegetate an area previously cleared for forestry and agriculture by enlisting the help of businesses and individuals. With support from Tourism Tropical North Queensland (TTNQ), the project aims to create tangible positive outcomes for local ecosystems and communities.

Arinex funded planting enough native trees to remove the non-travel related carbon emissions generated by the conference, demonstrating their commitment to reducing their event carbon footprint. Nicole Walker, Managing Director of Arinex, emphasized the importance of empowering clients to incorporate sustainability into their event programs, highlighting sustainable tourism’s impact on local communities and ecosystems.

Reforest CEO Daniel Walsh praised Arinex for their leadership in driving change through carbon removal activities that are engaging and personalized for customers and event attendees. He hopes other business events will follow Arinex’s lead in supporting reforestation initiatives like the Wongabel Mabi Forest restoration project.

Terrain CEO Stewart Christie emphasized the critical role of the restoration activity in preserving the critically endangered Mabi Forest ecosystem. At the same time, TTNQ CEO Mark Olsen noted that including a corporate social responsibility aspect in an event, the itinerary could positively impact a destination beyond the event’s influence.

Arinex’s commitment to sustainable tourism extended beyond its reforestation efforts. They took their team on a broader tour of the region, visiting Lake Eacham, the mountain village of Kuranda, and the Caravonica lakes.

This reforestation project represents a promising model of regenerative tourism. It is part of a more extensive set of sustainable tourism initiatives that allow visitors to impact the Cairns region while exploring the area positively. In conclusion, Arinex has set an excellent example of how businesses can incorporate sustainability into their event programs, positively impacting local communities and ecosystems while still enjoying the beautiful natural landscapes of the region. This project is a testament to the power of corporate social responsibility and how it can help drive change towards a more sustainable future.
